He also stated, “Personally, professionally, and more importantly for me, morally, I can’t take instructions from a person like that, I refuse.”

However, he also mentioned how respected names in WWE were thanking him for being a leader. He continued: “I was going back and forth with a couple of guys that are very well-respected there and they were saying, ‘thank you for leading.’ I’m not doing it to be a leader or set an example. I’m doing it because it’s right for me.”

It is no surprise that his departure was because of under-bookings and a lack of creative direction that led to Young leaving.

But one wonders the implications of this message by Young.

What do Young’s statements signify?

Often, wrestlers ask for their release or walk out unceremoniously due to a lack of opportunities or bad creative storylines. In Young’s case, both these factors played a crucial part, as he never got what he desired out of the promotion.

Young was optimistic about working under Triple H, but things never materialized as he knew the merger between WWE and UFC meant Vince McMahon was back in charge to some extent.

After a lukewarm return in December 2022, the 43-year-old stayed behind the scenes, helping the creative backstage. Even though he never appeared on the main roster again, he was still well-respected for being a leader and standing up.

Fans can only hope for a better outing for him at his old home of Impact Wrestling. What do you think about Young’s take on leaving the organization? Chime in your thoughts below.
