Ever since the authorities started to show interest in the Saudi Arabia offer, fans have been criticizing them over the fact that they are tempted with heavy funds. Coming forward with a similar opinion, a fan, regarded the WTA as, “sell outs of all sell outs”.

Another fan, hitting a similar point and slamming at the CEO Steve Simon, asked, “Does he get an under the table payoff?”.

The comments were no short of complaints and rage over the latest decision. Another fan, regarding it as an “awful decision,” added more weight to the discussion.

The reactions window gained a more personal POV as a player’s parent entered the conversation. Mentioning the fact that she was “utterly disgusted”, she made it clear that not even the players and their families were supporting the call.

The series of comments continued and another fan matched the comments that referred to it as a decision for money. “Business decision” he summarised it.

With these and several other comments on a similar note, the fans made one side of the decision clear, making it evident that they believe the decision was taken to just drive in more money to the event.

WTA CEO Steve Simon views the decision as a ‘new opportunity’

Besides the perspective of the fans, WTA CEO Steve Simon came up with a completely opposite thought, mentioning that this shift could mark the beginning of a ‘new opportunity’.

“Bringing the WTA Finals to Riyadh is an exciting new opportunity for us and a positive step for the long-term growth of women’s tennis as a global and inclusive sport,” Simon mentioned, presenting his positive vision over the big move.

Along with that, he also appreciated the result-driven approach hindered by the Saudi Tenni Federation, stating, “We’ve been impressed by the commitment shown by the Saudi Tennis Federation to grow the sport at all levels.”

With the decision being finally agreed upon, the fans’ anger still acts as a challenge for the association to tackle. However, it still remains to be seen what the players have to say about it.
