“It is never easy being away from my son, especially for so long. I miss him,” Taylor Townsend admitted. Since giving birth to her son Adyn in 2021, the American WTA star has been juggling a packed tennis calendar and the full-time job of being a mom. It’s not easy striking that kind of balance. But Townsend seems to be doing just that—one match and one mess at a time. Now that she’s on a break from on-court commitments, she’s relishing all the moments to spend quality time with her little munchkin, even if she runs out of energy!
After wrapping up her campaign at the 2025 Miami Open, Townsend finally got the chance to take a breather. And she’s using every bit of that break to spend some quality time with her little whirlwind of a son. On court, she had a solid run—she made it to the third round in singles, climbing through qualifying and eventually falling to ninth seed Zheng Qinwen in a close 1-6, 6-7(3) match. In doubles, she partnered with Katerina Siniakova and the pair marched their way to the quarterfinals. The duo looked sharp, but their journey ended there, courtesy of Miyu Kato and Cristina Bucsa in another tightly contested battle.
Still, the 28-year-old is making the most of her break with her son Adyn. And since returning, life hasn’t exactly been chill. You’d think she’d get to catch her breath. But nope—Adyn had other plans. Townsend gave fans a glimpse into the post-tour chaos on her Instagram stories. “#momlife back in action,” she wrote on Tuesday, dropping a quick video of the mess created by her 4-year-old. “Just a typical Tuesday night, I mean morning with a 4-year-old child that is set on making my life difficult,” she added, showing off the mini tornado Adyn had left behind. And when she told him to “clean this up,” he didn’t even look back—just carried on, deep in his own world.

That wasn’t the end of the toddler madness. In a new Instagram story, the Townsend-Adyn duo was seen having a serious showdown over who gets to be the “big dog.” Townsend captioned it, “Morning Shenanigans 🤣❤️.” In another one, Adyn was fully immersed in a dino battle, while the American tennis star could be seen chilling on the couch with their dog. She summed it up with one line: “Bruh I have no energy to fight. 🫣🥺”

Breaks like these clearly mean the world to her. Just a few weeks back, after the Indian Wells tournament, the Australian Open doubles champion used her time off to celebrate a major milestone—AJ’s 4th birthday. On March 14, she posted a bunch of sweet photos with her son on Instagram. “Screaming HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my son, my everything, and my ultimate blessing! 🙏🏾❤️✨” she wrote.
Townsend has been open about how motherhood has completely changed her.

Taylor Townsend reflects on her journey as a mother
Before Adyn came into her life, she wasn’t even sure if she wanted kids. In a February interview with Essence, she said, “One of the things that was shocking was that I didn’t want kids because I have spent my whole…entire life playing tennis. I’ve been playing tennis since I was four.”
But here she is now—smiling through the mess, laughing through the chaos, and not wanting to be away from her son for too long. Despite the grind of the WTA tour, she does her best to make time for Adyn, whether it’s for a birthday cake or dinosaur battles.

She’s also learning to grow through this unusual rhythm of life. Townsend reflected, “It’s also really strange because I won a Grand Slam, and then one day later, I’m in a different country, and I get my a– kicked, and it’s crazy, but that’s just how tennis goes…” Even when the 28-year-old is away, she tries to make the most of it. She said, “I’m really enjoying the time that I have to myself. When I’m on the road, and I don’t travel with AJ, I really try and just use this time to ask myself questions and get one with myself. I try to use these opportunities to grow as a person, so I come back and I’m able to instill certain lessons in him or certain realizations that I’ve maybe come to while I’ve been gone to help me to be a better mom to him. I’m enjoying it.”
It’s clear Taylor Townsend’s journey isn’t just about chasing wins anymore—it’s about making memories too. And whether she’s in Miami or in the middle of a toy war at home, she’s showing up for both roles like a champ.
