Serena Williams has been one of the best players to step foot on Centre Court, winning 7 Wimbledon titles in her career. The American won her first Championship back in 2002, beating her elder sister Venus in the final.

Williams returned to competitive action this year at the All-England Club losing in the first round to Harmony Tan. But, the former World No.1, according to her, is not done yet.

Mouratoglou’s academy pays tribute to Serena’s 2019 Wimbledon performance

Serena was earlier coached by the Frenchman Patrick Mouratoglou for nearly a decade. The pair began their partnership back in 2012 and went onto achieve great success on the tour. In 2019, Mouratoglou’s academy paid a special Independence Day tribute to the legendary American after her dominant performance at Wimbledon. The caption read, “You just gotta ignite the light. And let it shine. Just own the night. Like the FOURTH OF JULY. ‘Cause baby you’re a fiiiiirework.”

The lyrics were taken from American singer Katy Perry’s hit song, Firework. Williams went on to reach the Wimbledon final in 2019, but came up short against Simona Halep.

Despite the success enjoyed during the partnership, Serena split with Mouratoglou earlier this year after she her withdrawal from the French Open.

Serena Williams and Mouratoglou’s bitter ending

After over a decade of continued success, Serena and her longtime coach parted ways. Now, the Frenchman is coaching Halep on a full-time basis. Mouratoglou explained his decision for their amicable split, saying, ?I went to ask her what she was going to do.”

“It wasn?t very clear to her. I asked her if she wanted to go to Roland-Garros. She told me she didn?t know,” he added. While Serena picked up her last Grand Slam at the Australian Open in 2017, Halep has won two Majors since turning pro in 2006, and is going strong in the ongoing Wimbledon Championships. Under Patrick Mouratoglou’s guidance, the Romanian will look to secure her third Grand Slam tournament. She will be facing Amanda Anisimova in the quarter-final after breezing past Paula Badosa earlier today in the fourth round.
