There is a famous saying, “Balance is not something you find, it’s something you create.” How can we create a balance in our lives, though? Well, perhaps tennis legend Venus Williams has this answer in her recently published book, Strive: 8 Steps to Find Your Awesome. Recently, Williams gave an interview with the BBC The One Show. During that interview, she revealed what “Balance” truly means to her life. While speaking on the same, she couldn’t stop herself from expressing her love and admiration for the English actor, Hugh Grant. Why did his name come up in the discussion, though?

In a previous interview, Venus Williams revealed that her favorite feel-good movies are romantic comedies. Does she have a specific reason? According to the tennis icon, she loves happy endings, which is why films in that genre make her feel good. Her love for romantic comedies often shines through in her speeches. For instance, during a recent BBC interview about finding balance in life, she unexpectedly shifted the conversation to her fascination with the genre.

She said, “It’s hard to find balance. And I know I haven’t perfected it, But it’s about finding moments of balance every day. So for example, my older sister Isha, she loves to cook. That’s her moment of balance. For me is the romantic comedy! There is not a Hugh Grant film that I haven’t seen. I watched ‘Love Actually’ a few times a year and it’s my happy place even if I’ve seen it you know. So, you gotta find your own moment of balance each day.”

For those who are unaware, ‘Love Actually’ is a 2003 Christmas romantic comedy film which is written and directed by Richard Curtis. Hugh Grant played the role of David, the Prime Minister in this film. Grant loves tennis as much as Williams loves movies! For example, during the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, we saw the actor putting on an animated display with his wife Anna Eberstein from the stands. The couple looked happier than ever as they watched the racquet sport sitting together in The Royal Box on the Centre Court at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. He is a frequent visitor at tennis matches, Grant was spotted attending Wimbledon matches in the 2021 season as well.

Talking about Wimbledon and romantic comedy films, how can we miss out on Venus Williams‘ thoughts on the romantic comedy, Wimbledon which starred Kristen Dunst and Paul Bettany? In June 2023, she shared her opinion on the film saying, “You see the tennis movies are made, you can see they just can’t play, but those girls worked hard. I watched that movie, Wimbledon or something, the girl takes two days off to go fall in love, I’m thinking, ‘I didn’t take a day off at Wimbledon.’ I don’t want to fall in love, 6-0 works for me.

Speaking on the same lines during a recently released video on IG, Venus Williams was heard saying, “Balance. We hear all the time but the truth is life isn’t perfectly balanced and it doesn’t need to be. I’ve learned that trying to keep everything in perfect harmony can leave is feeling stressed and overwhelmed. Instead what’s important is finding those moments of balance within the chaos.” The 44-year-old tennis legend further added that it’s pretty much okay to take a break when they need it.
