For Alexis Ohanian, Sundays were once a blank canvas, a day without distinct rituals, until came the “Papa Pancakes.” Inspired by his own father’s simple pancake mornings, Alexis initially continued the tradition, unaware of the artistic revolution that awaited. Olympia, however, had grander visions, demanding squeeze bottles and turning breakfast into a culinary art form, a lesson Alexis hopes will shape her future expectations. As the pancake legacy grew, so did the family, with Adira joining the Sunday ritual in May 2023, solidifying a tradition that now stands in stark contrast to Alexis’s own less-defined childhood Sundays.
Taking to X, Ohanian revealed what Sundays entail these days as a grownup and wrote, “Growing up is being the 41-year-old making Sunday breakfast at 7am, feeding your kids, playing with them, cleaning up—all while your retired dad + step mom are still “waking up” to come over. What a life! 😂”
In contrast, in another tweet he reflected on his childhood and wrote, “I really had no concept of Sunday morning as a kid. It was just television / videogames and dad’s pancakes.”

Even though his understanding of the day has evolved, the pancake tradition remains unchanged. In an interview with ‘People’, Ohanian once shared, “Growing up, my dad would make pancakes every Sunday. They were delicious, but it wasn’t just about the food. It was about being together.” Now, he carries on the same tradition with his daughters.
“There are no phones, just conversation. And we’ll spend the day together lounging around the house, or playing hide-and-seek, or going for a swim in the pool,” Ohanian explained. “Just being a family on those days means so much to both of us.” The tradition has come full circle.
His eldest daughter, Olympia, is now the head pancake chef, making sure her little sister, Adira, gets the same experience she did. Recently, the 41-year-old shared a proud dad moment on Instagram, posting a video of himself and Olympia flipping pancakes. “Jr was working that griddle this morning! #PapaPancakes about to be OlympiaPancakes,” he captioned. But pancakes aren’t the only Sunday ritual.
Olympia has taken an early liking to sports, much like her legendary mother, Serena Williams. While she’s tried different activities, golf seems to be a favorite right now. And Ohanian? He’s all in.

One of his most cherished roles is being Olympia’s “daddy caddy.” Every weekend, he carries her clubs and cheers her on. It’s another way he makes sure Sundays are all about family. Balancing work and family isn’t easy, but Ohanian seems to have it figured out. How though?

Serena Williams’ husband turned Reddit into a massive success, but that didn’t come at the cost of his family time. He was there when Serena needed care after childbirth. And he’s been a loud advocate for paid paternity leave, taking 16 weeks off when Olympia was born. So, how does he manage it all?

“When I was younger, I used to work from home, it was tough to mentally get the separation felt like never ended,” Alexis Ohanian recently shared in a reel on Instagram. “So I technically built an office for myself close to my home so that I can get enough space that I could leave and feel like I was going in to work but it’s literally next door. The crucial thing is making sure you’ve got focused time.”
His rule is simple: work is work, family is family. “My promise to my family is, when I’m on the clock between 8 and 6 p.m, unless it’s an emergency, don’t expect to hear from me. Because I am all in on work. Board meetings, meetings with my team at Seven Seven Six I need that ability to lock in,” Ohanian explained. And when work is done?
He’s fully present at home. “When I am off the clock, is I’m all in best I can be. At the dinner table every night, asking the girls about their day. That’s how I try to separate it. When you’re in there you should be able to focus to work and able to do your best work. Choose your own adventure, Good Luck,” the 41-year-old said.
