The 2025 French Open is here! The top players across the globe have descended to Paris to participate in the clay-court extravaganza. Over the two weeks, tennis fans would be treated to some enthralling action on the red dirt as players will battle it out to win the second Grand Slam tournament of the season. With the tournament having started already today, players like Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula have made their predictions on the winner of the tournament.

Ahead of the start of the tournament, the WTA stars were asked to pick out the winner of the men’s singles event, featuring stars like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Interestingly, most of the female stars had varied opinions while picking out the winner and the dark horse to win the tournament. During that fun conversation, Pegula showed her patriotic side and left Gauff behind when it came to backing their countrymen.

When asked about her prediction of the men’s singles champion, Gauff mentioned, “I mean, I guess I’ll go with Carlos, the fact that he won in Rome, defending champion.” The Spanish sensation has been in some dominant form of late, winning the Italian Open by defeating Jannik Sinner in the summit clash. Additionally, he is also the defending French Open champion and will look to win back-to-back titles at Roland Garros.

Further, even as Pegula picked Jack Draper to win the tournament, she had a few American names when it came to picking the dark horses to win the event. Choosing her dark horses to win the tournament, she revealed, “Maybe I’ll go with Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz.” On the other hand, Gauff picked Alcaraz as well, and chose Jakub Mensik as the player with an outside chance to win the French Open.

Meanwhile, if Alcaraz has to defend his French Open crown, he would have to be wary of his biggest rival currently, Jannik Sinner. The Italian star has shown good form following his comeback from the doping suspension. Additionally, he thrives at big stages, as shown during his Australian Open triumph earlier this year. As a result, Alcaraz made a cautious revelation ahead of the French Open.

Carlos Alcaraz opens up about ‘dangerous’ Jannik Sinner

The Italian star has been in supreme form at the Grand Slam level, winning the previous two majors, the 2024 US Open and the 2025 Australian Open. Even as Alcaraz may be the favorite to win the French Open title, Sinner would go all out to win a hat-trick of Grand Slam titles. Thus, Alcaraz sounded cautious before the start of the tournament in Paris.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Carlos Alcaraz fend off Jannik Sinner's challenge, or is the Italian set for a hat-trick?

Have an interesting take?

Alcaraz, while speaking about Sinner, said, “He’s going to be dangerous. He’s going to be a really dangerous player in Paris.” Further, talking about his performance in Rome, Alcaraz said, “During the matches in some moments I was just feeling totally different. Before I was totally nervous, couldn’t handle the nerves as better as I’m doing right now. I was focused in other things that were important, about the results, about I have to win, I have to make results.”
