The crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium was left stunned as the partnership between the #2 Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu got outclassed by Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula. The score? It was 4-2, 4-2. But what really amazed the New York crowd was the kind of performance that the #4 WTA star showcased. Did you see the way she ducked to avoid Raducanu’s passing shot in the first round? We all thought Alcaraz and Raducanu would win, but they only lasted 50 minutes. And according to Draper, it was all thanks to his partner, Jessica Pegula.
Following the crazy win at the 2025 US Open mixed doubles, during the post-game interview, a reporter asked Draper about his feelings regarding his first mixed doubles win of his career. And the Briton was still in awe of Pegula’s skills. He answered, “I’ve got a pretty good partner. Honestly, like, what an experience playing out here, with Jessica playing Emma and Carlos, you know. It doesn’t get any better than this. So, it’s just a pleasure to be out here playing against them and playing with such a good player.”
But this wasn’t the only win for Draper and Pegula. They also proceeded to defeat Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev with a score of 4-1, 4-1. And this win secured their spot in the mixed doubles semi-finals. This seemingly made Draper a Mixed Doubles specialist. Well, that’s what the journalist claimed at the on-court interview following Draper and Pegula’s quarterfinal win.

Reflecting on that, the British star replied, “I don’t know what I was expecting. But I think it’s been pretty good so far, especially after not competing for a while. So, I’m happy the way I’m playing…”

The 2025 season has been a bit challenging for Draper. First, it was the hip injury in January. And then, an arm injury forced him to withdraw from the ATP Masters 1000 in Toronto and Cincinnati. Nevertheless, he credited the victory to his partner. He continued, “It’s all about having a good partner as well. It is. That’s true.”

But it wasn’t all fun prior to the US Open. Her 2025 season hasn’t really been a smooth road. She’s won only the ATX Open, Credit One Charleston Open, and the Bad Homburg Open this year. And the repeated disappointments gave rise to quite a bit of frustration.

After putting a stop to her progression at the National Bank Open with a loss against Anastasia Sevastova, Jessica Pegula got brutally honest. She revealed, “It really bothers me. I’m kind of a perfectionist, so I don’t like having to say that. But I mean I feel like I’ve gone through phases of my career, a few tournaments where I feel like that sometimes and you got to figure out how to get out of it and not, you know, feel sorry for yourself or make excuses.”

Nobody likes to be sloppy in a game where one is supposed to be quite impressive, right? That’s exactly how Pegula felt as she took aim at the Cincinnati Open. Unfortunately, this run was also cut short, as she was still trying to figure things out. But the US Open Mixed Doubles ensured that she could still rise high.
Now, with the $1M prize in her crosshairs, Jessica Pegula will likely do her best and synergize with Jack Draper to win the Mixed Doubles. It wouldn’t be too tough for the partnership. After all, the duo has already defeated Carlos Alcaraz, one of the toughest opponents to face on the court. But do let us know what you think about the partnership between Draper and Pegula.
