When Iowa alum, Caitlin Clark walked into the pros, little did she know about the challenges that the WNBA will throw at her. And while the athlete worked on her flaws, especially turnovers, and bolstered Indiana Fever to victory, her woes do not end here. Currently sidelined owing to a left groin injury, the ghosts of her past season have already been unearthed, ready to scar the player and the league.
Well, popular national journalist and commentator, Christine Brennan officially released a book on the Fever guard. Titled, “On Her Game: Caitlin Clark and the Revolution in Women’s Sports,” the book highlights Clark’s professional journey. But what was puzzling were the mentions of all the setbacks that she faced during her rookie season. However, these glaring setbacks put the league’s prestige in a jeopardy. Or so does the national analyst Rachel DeMita feel.
Hinting at one of the major blunders committed by the league, Rachel DeMita read WNBA PA’s letter addressed to Brennan. “It says, “A message on behalf of the 144. This week was dedicated to celebrating and amplifying A’ja, Caitlin, DiJonai, and Napheesa for their hard work and truly exceptional performances all season long”,” the analyst said in her recent video. “Which, by the way, you guys, they talk about amplifying these four players. The rookie of the year at this point in time had not been announced yet.”

Looking back at the close of the last year games, the league celebrated the athletes for a successful season. And while they started the letter on a cheerful note by describing one of the most exceptional players on the hardwood. The PA forgot an important news. Now, by the time the letter was released, it was too late.

So, we talked about A’ja Wilson was MVP, Napheesa was defensive player of the year, DiJonai was the most improved player, and Caitlin was rookie of the year,” DeMita explained. “Hers had not been announced yet and they essentially leaked it and everybody knew that she was going to win rookie of the year from this statement.”
Despite praising Clark for her exceptional contributions on the hardwood, this one mistake by the league faced major backlash from all quarters. This official statement was meant for Brennan regarding the journalist’s inquisitions surrounding the eye-poke incident. But in a bid to warn her from committing or questioning the players, the league set the tongues rolling. And the above statement confirmed Clark to receive the most-anticipated honors, that of the 2024 Rookie of the Year.
Moreover, the league even accused Brennan of using her journalistic privileges to fuel certain narratives, suited to her interest. This bitterness towards the former reporter and commentator began last year. In an attempt to block a shot, DiJonai Carrington accidently poked Caitlin Clark in the eye, halting the then rookie’s performance for a brief while. And despite both players publicly admitting the incident to be accidental in nature, Brennan did not stop.
She questioned Carrington’s move, pushing her to admit that the eye-poking was intentional. Not only that, she even asked if Carrington was laughing about the incident later on. These questions prompted the league to release the letter, warning Brennan of staying away from players and that the W has their eyes set on her.
And with the book launched on July 08, 2025, replete with the league’s issues surrounding Clark and the like, how will Indiana Fever player and the WNBA come to terms with everything that’s mentioned? With the player’s sophomore run halted for the second time this season, is Caitlin Clark’s reputation from last season on the line? As someone who stays constantly in the public eye, this book can be a game-changer for the star and her fanbase.

Indiana Fever felt the absence of Caitlin Clark
“I don’t know where we’re going to be because Caitlin hasn’t been on the floor. That’s obviously a huge piece for us and what we do,” head coach of Indiana Fever Stephanie White had said. The Indiana Fever completed the 10th game of the season without star player, Caitlin Clark. The guard has been sidelined for the second time, owing to a left groin injury. While the team was displayed an inconsistent gameplay during Clark’s earliest regular game absence, things were different this time.
The Fever not only displayed more hunger in the hardwood, their combined efforts and determination were enough to solidify the team as the 2025 Commissioner’s Cup champions. Needless to say, the Indiana Fever battled it out against two-top ranked teams in Minnesota Lynx and the Las Vegas Aces. And emerged victorious. There was a visual shift in their identity. As a team that heavily relied on Clark to rally the offences, the locker room adopted to the new conditions without their superstar’s active presence.

Ahead of the tipoff against the Los Angeles Sparks, head coach Stephanie White had addressed the team’s progress. “I think we’ve found a little bit more of an identity defensively with this group,” White said. “We’re continuing, offensively, to move the ball a little bit better, to find our spots individually. And I think that that’s helped us.” Unfortunately, the three-game winning streak came to a halt as the team struggled to find momentum in the latest game.
This loss comes as a reality check to the roster that has been missing the central piece. But as Clark continues to watch from the courtside, can Indiana Fever turn this loss into an opportunity to balance the statistic and move towards clinching another victory? As the third ranked team prepares to face the newest team in Golden State Valkyries, things can go either ways for Stephanie White’s locker room.
