The WNBA All-Star break marks the halfway point of the regular season. With each team having played just shy of 30 games so far, ESPN decided to crunch the numbers to see which team currently has the best odds at winning the WNBA Championship, and the results have divided the fans.

“Crunch time in the W! Entering the second half, ESPN Analytics has the league chasing the highest scoring team in Indiana and the reigning champs, Las Vegas; giving those two the best chances to win the title this season,” ESPN wrote while giving the Fever a 24% chance of winning the title, just ahead of the Aces’ 23%.

This prediction will surely come as a morale boost for the Indiana fans. However, the Fever team has been far from perfect this season. Granted, they are the best-scoring team in the league, averaging 95.5 points per game, but also hold the infamous record of being the team with the most losses when scoring 100 or more points, with four losses coming this way.

Caitlin Clark is second in the league with 7.9 assists per game. She was also Indiana’s leading scorer before a back injury on June 24 sidelined her for two games and limited her minutes when she returned in July, well ahead of the All-Star break. While Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston have kept the Fever on the playoff path during Clark’s absence, their defense has struggled. The absence of a rim protector like Monique Billings due to injury hasn’t helped.

The Fever also have the fourth-highest turnover rate in the league at 14.4 per game. In fact, Caitlin Clark herself leads the league with 4.7 turnovers per game ahead of Alyssa Thomas and Angel Reese, both of whom average 3.5 per game.

They are also the third-worst in the league when it comes to steals per game, with 6.5. Meanwhile, the Aces rank third in the league for the fewest turnovers with 11.8 and have better steal (7.2) and blocking (5.1) stats than Indiana.

The Reaction From Fans Has Been Wide-Ranging

While Indiana may have the slim lead, most fans believe this is too early to rank Indiana as favorites. After all, the Fever’s post-All-Star Game will be their biggest test as they’ll face multiple top teams, including league leaders Minnesota Lynx.

“Nobody looked at the Fever’s August schedule yet because it’s BRUTAL. That’s the REAL TEST,” one fan pointed out on ESPN’s post.

“The Fever will be favorites if they survive the August madness,” added one fan. Another echoed the sentiment, writing, “Indiana hasn’t played the Lynx yet this year! We shall see!”

The Fever will indeed face nearly all of the current top five teams in August alone. The list includes their first clash with league leaders Minnesota Lynx, No. 3 Las Vegas, No. 4 Dallas Wings, and No. 6 Atlanta Dream.

The Lynx are top of the standings with a 22-6 record to boast, and they have done it without their best player, Napheesa Collier. However, Collier returned on July 23, scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds against the Seattle Storm. With Rookie of the Year contender Olivia Miles already outpacing Clark to become the fastest player to reach 500 points and 150 assists, their road game against the Lynx is shaping up to be Indiana’s biggest test.

Maybe that’s why one fan commented, “Lynx just got Queen Phee back, ain’t no one stopping em.”

Meanwhile, despite Indiana already handing the Aces their biggest defeat of the 2026 season, a 109-75 blowout win, many believe A’ja Wilson and Co. have what it takes to avenge their loss.

“We can never count the Aces out, but the most threatening and perhaps complete team is Minnesota,” one fan said.

“A’ja and others can never be ignored, my friends; they show up when needed,” another fan said.

A’ja Wilson is putting up another MVP-level season, averaging 26.1 points per game, the highest in the league, and the Aces are third in the league with an 18-8 record. It would be tough not to see them as one of the title contenders as well.

Only time will tell how accurate these insights turn out to be. For now, live action kicks off on July 28 as the Mystics take on the Sun.
