As the 2025 WNBA Draft approaches, excitement builds, and the focus shifts to the new talent expected to make a significant impact. Of the group, Azzi Fudd stands out as a top prospect, known for her scoring and energetic performance. The closer we get to the draft, the more intense the rumours become regarding her potential team.

Gabby Williams, who was named an All-Star in 2025, recently guested on Fudd’s podcast, Fudd Around and Find Out, and, as one post stated, “immediately got down to business with recruitment.”

Currently, the Dallas Wings hold the #1 pick, and, according to some mock drafts, Fudd could end up as high as the first overall pick. There’s even more connecting her to Dallas: Paige Bueckers. Bueckers and Fudd are currently dating and, together, have formed one of the most lethal backcourts in the country at UConn. The idea of reuniting the two now is tantalising, especially since it’s a proven formula.

Williams’ comments have added a layer of complexity. If Fudd were to be drafted to Seattle, she and Bueckers would have to match up against each other multiple times in the season. Fudd’s potential arrival in Seattle has already sparked discussion about team chemistry, and Fudd would fit right in.

Azzi shot a blistering 50% from three last season, something that the team needs, especially if they manage to resign Nneka Ogwumike. Currently, the only concern are her injury issues, especially since she has torn her right ACL twice and missed half of the 2022-23 season and almost the whole 2023-24 season with knee injuries. Last season was her healthiest season, and if she can play this season without any injuries, she’s a lock for the top 5.

Chiney Ogwumike Weighs in on Azzi Fudd’s Draft Value

The debate over who will be selected first overall is still in flux, and Chiney Ogwumike recently made her opinion clear. The former first-overall pick recently appeared on NBA Today and made her opinion clear. “With the No. 1 still being up for grabs, that situation being fluid, one thing that translates in the WNBA is shooting,” she said. “I would not be surprised if Azzi Fudd is the No. 1 pick. She’s someone that is leading them in scoring so far and has had multiple games with multiple threes. So she’s a shooter, and that’s good.”

She concluded that Dallas should “should shoot their shot at that,” while also praising Fudd as the, “One of the best, if not the best shooter in the draft.” She’s not wrong about Fudd’s fit in Dallas. The Wings have the Rookie of the Year, who had an outstanding season, but lack heavily in three-point shooting; they shot just 30.4% from beyond the arc last year, and had the worst record in the league with just 10 wins on the season.

Fudd also stood out during the Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase against Michigan and Utah. Coming from Ogwumike, a celebrated veteran and analyst, along with someone who understands what front offices prioritise, the endorsement signals that Fudd might be heading to Dallas, much to Gabby Williams’ dismay.
