Kelsey Plum’s athletic genes

Born in Poway, California, Kelsey is one of the four children of Katie and Jim Plum. She developed an early interest in sports courtesy of the athletic background of her parents. Plum’s mother Katie has been a decorated volleyball player in her college days and had the opportunity to represent the University of California, Davis on a national level. Moreover, her contributions played a pivotal role in the Aggies finishing third in the 1979-80 season. Currently, she has not disassociated herself from the sport and is providing the services of an athletic trainer.

Similarly, her husband also had a distinguished collegiate career. However, it was not limited to a single sport. Jim Plum started developing himself as a football player during his time at Helix High School in La Mesa, California. In addition to this, he was also an All-American before entering college. Then, Jim took his talents to San Diego State where he realized that he could excel in baseball as well. Consequently, he had the privilege to represent the Aztecs on both the turfs.

Anyhow, Kelsey is not the only child who inherited the sports DNA from her parents.

The sporty sibling environment of the Plum household

Both the older sisters of Kelsey Plum made sure to carry forward the volleyball legacy of their mother. The eldest one Caitlin, was a talented digger and just like Katie had a chance to play for UC Davis. At the same time, middle sister Lauren donned the Oregon Jersey and also made her way to the USA Volleyball Junior National Team. Now, she is pursuing her professional career in the sport by participating in overseas leagues. Meanwhile, the youngest Plum in the family, Daniel is following his father’s footsteps at the Cathedral Catholic. He is currently showcasing his talent as a tight end for their football team.

Having such a gifted family surely serves as a blessing for Kelsey Plum. The amount of competition within the family has clearly helped develop her game to the next level. We will have to wait and see what more she can achieve professionally by utilizing her family genetics.
