On account of her brilliant basketball skills, Griner had signed a $1 million deal with Nike at the time she was drafted by the Mercury. Hence, she became the first openly gay athlete to sign a deal with the sporting giants. Briner also inked contract deals with numerous brands, including T-Mobile, besides launching her own clothing line by the name BG25 in 2014, as per The Success Bug. Other than playing in the WNBA and endorsing brands, Griner also played overseas, which helped her earn significant money. As per Sporting News, her salary was around $1 million annually when she participated in the Russian league for the UMMC Ekaterinburg, where she helped her team win the championships consecutively. In 2014, she also plied her trade for a Chinese team for three months, which assisted her in making $600,000. Previously, she had amassed $200,000 during her four-year rookie contract.
