The new CBA terms have brought forth a contract frenzy, with record deals being signed across the WNBA. Rookie-scale contracts have been revised, keeping in mind the new guaranteed minimum, which hands a healthy entry paycheck to the 2026 draft picks.

The franchises are pulling out all stops to get their centerpieces to commit to their projects while also luring other teams’ key stars with seven-figure deals. A’ja Wilson recently signed a historic 3-year $5 million deal with the Las Vegas Aces, representing the highest contract in league history.

However, days after her record-breaking deal, the Fever have taken the top spot, handing out a multi-year record-breaking contract to their 2023 number one draft pick, Aliyah Boston, who commits her next few years to the Indiana-based franchise.

What Are the Details of Aliyah Boston’s New Indiana Fever Contract?

Aliyah Boston has signed a four-year extension with the Indiana Fever, securing her future with the franchise until 2029. The four-year deal is the most expensive contract in WNBA history, with Boston set to earn $6.3 million over its duration.

With this contract, Boston becomes the most expensive player in the WNBA, with the $6.3 million figure representing the highest total payout from a single contract in league history.

The center had one more year left on the rookie-scale deal she signed after being drafted first in 2023. But the Fever negotiated a new contract, highlighting the 24-year-old’s importance to the team.

What Role Did the New CBA Terms Play in Aliyah Boston’s Extension?

The new CBA terms included the EPIC (Exceptional Performance on Initial Contract) Provision, allowing high-performing players on rookie-scale deals to renegotiate in the fourth year of their contract. Players with All-WNBA honors become eligible for max deals, and those who become league MVPs earn the right to negotiate for a supermax contract.

Aliyah Boston’s All-WNBA Second Team honors in 2025 made her eligible for a max contract renegotiation this year, and the Fever have handed her the raise. Boston becomes the first player to renegotiate a new deal because of the EPIC provision in the new CBA.

Despite the terms allowing Boston to earn a maximum of $1.19 million this year, the 24-year-old negotiated a lower sum and will pocket $1 million for the 2026 season.

Aliyah Boston will earn $1 million for the 2026 season, a huge raise from the $78,000 annual salary she was on. The new CBA terms ensured her rookie-scale contract salary would increase to over $550,000 for the year. However, this new deal sees her cross into the seven-figure range.

What Is the Salary Breakdown of Boston’s New Multi-Year Deal?

Aliyah Boston’s four-year $6.3 million contract features a $1 million salary for the upcoming season. From 2027 to 2029, the 24-year-old will be eligible to earn 20% of Indiana’s salary cap, which is set to increase every year.

While the current salary cap stands at $7 million for all WNBA teams, Aliyah Boston is expected to earn over $1.55 million in 2027, $1.74 million in 2028, and $1.91 million in her final year, according to salary cap expert Patrick Arsenault.

The 24-year-old has shown her commitment to the Indiana project and her willingness to sacrifice for the team. Aliyah Boston opting for a lower annual salary package this year allowed the Indiana Fever to hand starting guard Kelsey Mitchell a one-year supermax contract.

Mitchell became the highest-paid player in franchise history and will earn $1.4 million for the season. However, that figure will be eclipsed by Aliyah Boston in 2027 and beyond.

With Boston signing the record-breaking deal, the Indiana Fever now have less than $400,000 remaining in their cap space. The franchise prioritized re-signing its core players for 2025, with Lexie Hull and Sophie Cunningham as key returnees.

In addition, the Fever brought in Monique Billings to add quality and experience to the frontcourt. Billings represents the third-highest cap hit for Indiana this year, with the trio of Billings, Boston, and Mitchell taking up more than 45% of the salary cap for this season.

In a league where every team is going small, Aliyah Boston may not represent a great perimeter threat. But she has been working on her shooting range, and even shot 33.3% from behind the arc throughout Unrivaled’s second season.

In addition, her on-floor chemistry with Caitlin Clark is electric, with Billings also showing glimpses of the same during her time with the Indiana Fever guard in Puerto Rico for the USWNT. The Fever looks to be building around Caitlin Clark, and it will be interesting to see what transpires when the 24-year-old becomes eligible for a renegotiation under the EPIC provisions next year.

While Boston will represent Fever’s only supermax contract starting next year, Caitlin Clark could sign a deal similar to what her teammate has now.
