Angel Reese came into the most recent matchup with the Los Angeles Sparks carrying all the momentum. Just days after a career-best performance had helped the Atlanta Dream secure a playoff spot, she found herself in another battle with Cameron Brink, but this time, Brink made sure to make Reese work for every opportunity around the basket.

The first quarter had one such sequence. With about 1:45 left on the clock, Reese looked to drive the ball, backing down Brink near the basket. She put up a shot but was blocked by the Sparks star, then grabbed her own miss and tried to go up with it again, and Brink sent the second attempt out of bounds. Fox News reporter Jackson Thompson posted on X, clipping the sequence with a caption about Reese’s state.

The clip showed Reese sitting on the ground, clearly annoyed at the lack of a foul call. She briefly put her headband over her face as teammates helped her back to her feet.
The moment came during a familiar matchup for both stars. Just four days earlier, Atlanta had completely demolished the Sparks, 124-88, and set a franchise high for points scored, led by one of the best performances of Reese’s career. She didn’t miss any of her nine shots, finishing with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.
Tonight, however, the Sparks picked up their defensive effort, holding the Dream to 40% shooting for the night, including containing Reese with just 11 points on 4-14 shooting. However, the star found another way to make an impact and set multiple records doing so. Reese finished with 26 rebounds, breaking the previous record set by Chamique Holdsclaw in 2003, with 24 rebounds.
She also broke the single-season rebounding record, with 458 rebounds so far, surpassing the previous mark of 451, set by A’ja Wilson back in 2024.
Meanwhile, Brink had one of her best outings of the season as well. She logged all 15 of the Sparks’ bench points, along with eight rebounds, three steals, and five blocks, helping the Sparks keep the game competitive without third-leading scorer Rae Burrell, who sat out due to illness.
Nneka Ogwumike led the scoring effort for the Sparks, logging a season-high 27 points and pulling down 16 rebounds, making her the oldest player to log a 25/15 game at 36 years old.
Ultimately, the emotional moment became just one moment of a historic night for Angel Reese, and a small glimpse into a showdown between two of the league’s most promising young forwards. If the latest matchup is any indication, there are plenty more physical battles ahead.
