Since music is such a big part of sports and life in general, it is no surprise that musicians and professional athletes have already had a deep connection. From attending games, shouting out to each other on social media, or even writing a song about a player, there has been plenty of ‘collaboration’ between the two. One of the biggest link-ups between the two fields in recent memory is between A’ja Wilson and Usher. Their relationship goes back to 2022 when A’ja Wilson invited him to the Aces’ victory parade. And now, as Jackie Young created WNBA history, Usher stayed true to his word.

During Game 2 of the 2025 WNBA Finals, Usher was in attendance for the game between the Las Vegas Aces and the Phoenix Mercury. And to mark the moment, the Las Vegas Aces showed out. They held their serve on the home court and won Game 2 with a comfortable 91-78 win.

Although A’ja Wilson had a monster game with a 28-point and 14-rebound double-double, the headlines will be about Jackie Young and her record-breaking night. In the third quarter, Jackie Young scored a WNBA Finals record for most points scored (21) in a quarter.

Although at first glance the results seem like a comfortable one, the Phoenix Mercury actually started the game strongly. At one point in the first quarter, the Mercury held an eight-point lead. However, the Aces then went on a 10-0 run and took the lead.

Since then, they seemed to be in total control of the game. While the first half belonged to A’ja Wilson, who ended the half with 20 points, the third quarter was all Jackie Young. She scored 21 out of her total 32 points in the third quarter and broke the record for most points scored in a WNBA Finals quarter.

This performance is a timely return to form for Jackie, as she ended Game 1 with just 10 points on a poor, 3-13 shooting night. But with her back in form, the signs are ominous for the Phoenix Mercury. Trailing 2-0 in the series, the Phoenix Mercury need to make sure that they win their home games. If not, then the Aces will soon have yet another Championship parade and this time, Usher may even show up.

A Timeline of Usher and A’ja Wilson’s Relationship

Usher’s relation with the Las Vegas Aces is an old one. As mentioned above, it all started when A’ja Wilson invited him to their Championship parade. In her press conference after winning the title, A’ja emphatically invited the eight-time Grammy award winner Usher to the parade. She said, “Usher, I better see you Usher. I’m not playing with you. Usher, I better see you Usher.” However, despite her invitation, Usher did not attend the Championship parade.

After winning back-to-back titles in 2023, A’ja again invited Usher to the parade. This time around, she took X and her interview with Good Morning America to invite him. But he could not attend the parade yet again. However, this time around, Usher did respond. In a video posted on X, he said,

“A’ja Wilson, I see you, I hear you. “I couldn’t be at the parade, but I wanted to send this out to you and congratulate all the wonderful ladies who did it once again. That’s right, do it, back-to-back, baby. That’s what I’m talking about, but anyway, listen. I wanted to invite you to come see the show. Come see me do it my way here in Vegas. We stick together, we love one another. Congratulations on this day, and I’ll see you soon. Peace.”

A couple of days later, Usher organized a private show for the Las Vegas Aces roster and serenaded A’ja Wilson with his songs. Since then, both of them have had some funny interactions. Usher has even attended last season’s Aces game against the Chicago Sky before his recent appearance during Game 2.

After winning Game 2, the Aces are in a fairly comfortable position. Now, it will be interesting to see how the rest of the series pans out when the Phoenix Mercury play at their home court.
