In a game where everything was supposed to go the Indiana Fever’s way, Angel Reese clearly had other plans. She turned the team’s night of celebration into her own statement, where she didn’t have to say anything but still made it clear she’s here to stay. The 24-year-old led the Atlanta Dream to a 108–101 win over one of the league’s most dangerous offensive teams. So by the time the final buzzer sounded, Shannon Sharpe believed Reese had given Atlanta exactly what it had been missing.

“I understand they went to the playoffs last year,” the ex-NFL star said on the latest episode of Nightcap. “But Angel Reese has given them something that they were missing, and obviously, they knew they needed it because they were willing to give up a first-round pick to bring her.
“Angel called Chicago out flat: ‘I’m not the problem in Chicago. Now y’all gonna find that out once I’m gone. But y’all want to make me out to be the villain, then I’m gonna play this role for another two to three months’. But once I get up out of here, y’all can see. Angel was such a young player. And young players are supposed to be seen and not heard. Whatever criticism you may or may not have, keep it to yourself. If you want to say something within the locker room, you want to take it to upper management, that’s fine and good. But when you air these grievances out… So they cast her to be the villain.”
“That was an easy role for her to have because she’s been the villain ever since she played Caitlin Clark in the national championship game. And so it was easy for them to put that cape on her, that crown on her head and so she could wear it. And she gladly accepted it. But that doesn’t diminish who and what she is.”
Now, that “villain” framing didn’t come out of thin air.

Ahead of the 2026 WNBA season, tensions in Chicago boiled over about roster direction so much that they decided to move on from their franchise star, Angel Reese. Atlanta saw that as an opening to secure a piece that would give them a major rebounding and second-chance possessions boost.
So they ended up giving up their 2027 and 2028 first-round draft picks, along with second-round pick swap rights in 2028, to the Sky in a trade that left the whole basketball world shocked. But honestly, that might have been one of the greatest moves.
Behind her, the Dream has turned into one of the most dominant teams this year. Her 12.2 rebounds per game have given Atlanta extra possessions and more freedom offensively because, more often than not, Angel Reese is cleaning up the glass and resetting the play. And that control on the boards has been a major reason they’ve already climbed to 10 wins. Meanwhile, the Sky have suffered 10 losses.
But here’s the thing: their latest win against the Fever carried a little extra weight for Reese. Why? Because not only did she help Atlanta snap Indiana’s winning streak, but she did it on a night when her arch-rival, Caitlin Clark, debuted her first signature shoe after months of anticipation.
Still, to be fair, it wasn’t like Clark had a bad night altogether. She did drop 26 points after all, but playing in her own signature shoes for the first time and still walking away with a loss? That’s going to sting a little.
But there is good news for fans who can’t get enough of this matchup and Clark’s storyline. The Indiana Fever will get another opportunity to take down Angel Reese & Co. on Friday when both teams lock horns once again, giving this rivalry yet another quick turn on the big stage.
