With Caitlin Clark out due to a back injury, coach Stephanie White had to call on other roster players to step in during the Indiana Fever’s game against the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday. The dominant win they commanded in that game further afforded the opportunity to have more rotation players come into the game. Among them was Bree Hall, who ended up making it a historic outing for herself.

“Bree Hall was active with Caitlin Clark out. Of their two developmental slots, they turn to Hall,” Fever reporter Tony East shared in his postgame reaction video. “She plays this time, her first appearance this season. She hits a corner three in front of the bench. The bench goes crazy. Everybody’s so psyched for her. It was her first made basket in a regular-season game for the Fever. She did score in the postseason last year, and she did score for the Valkyries last year, but specifically for the Fever, her first regular-season basket.

“And then a gorgeous drive to the cup from the left wing. Pretty solid defense. She got good praise from her teammates in this game. So to get minutes for those players was very meaningful as well.”

Hall delivered five points and one rebound in the 10 minutes that she played. But the special part was that she scored her first regular-season points of the season for the Fever. She also made her first three-pointer since entering the WNBA.

As East said, Hall’s corner three elicited quite a degree of elation from the Fever team. It in fact also carried over to the dressing room, where coach Stephanie White herself acknowledged it, and the rest of the team cheered again.

Apart from Bree Hall, other rotation players like Tyasha Harris, Makayla Timpson, Damiris Dantas, and Grace VanSlooten, also had minutes in that game. And they all contributed one way or the other to the Fever’s dominant 111-87 victory.

Harris was especially impactful, even playing the most minutes in the game. She did really well in place of Caitlin Clark, delivering 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

According to Tony East, having a game like this, where everyone is happy, with such a dominant scoreline and everyone getting to play, is the relief that this Indiana Fever team needs after a long week of controversy and chippy games. They will now go on an eight-day break, as their next game only takes place on July 5.

Stephanie White Highlights Fever’s Joy and Connection After Dominant Sparks Win

Just like Tony East said, this win against the Sparks is a big one. And it is not just because of the margin alone. It is because of the mental relief and togetherness that it brings into this Fever team, especially given the turbulence they have experienced this past week, and heading into a needed break.

Head coach Stephanie White captured exactly that when speaking in the postgame press conference.

“I think it’s big. You know, I thought our energy was really good,” she said. “We played really well together, we celebrated one another. Like we played with joy, and that’s important. When you go through the ups and downs, it’s like to feel a win like this and feel connected like this. You know, heading into the break, it’ll be a great opportunity for us to continue to work. No doubt about it. Get them a couple days off and they can relax.”

And without a shadow of doubt, if any team needs relaxation right now, it is definitely the Indiana Fever. The tension that has gone through and around the team in the past week, and even this season as a whole, has been quite significant.
