Angel Reese, the self-proclaimed “Bayou Barbie,” is steadily building a reputation as one of the most dynamic athletes both on and off the court. Her rivalry with Indiana Fever’s superstar Caitlin Clark has often been compared to the legendary Magic Johnson vs. Larry Bird rivalry. But Reese’s influence is far beyond the basketball arena!

Recently gracing the cover of Vogue’s winter edition, she seamlessly blends her passion for hoops with an undeniable flair for fashion, ” It’s always been both – basketball and fashion” “But I was a fashion girlie from young too… I was always in my mom’s closet, putting on her stuff. I liked to carry a purse. Hair done. I wanted to look put together. I still do.”

The Style Influencer of the Year has often faced controversy due to her bold fashion choices. She was even forced to deactivate her Instagram account for a week after receiving heavy backlash over a New Year’s Eve outfit.

On her podcast ‘A Touch More with Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe’, WNBA legend Sue Bird shed light on how the Chi-Town Barbie faced intense backlash from fans over her New Year’s Eve post. Bird praised Reese’s resilience and highlighted how she navigated the controversy with grace.

In her podcast, Sue Bird couldn’t help but admire how Angel Reese turned online hate into a moment of victory. “Angel Reese was on the cover of Vogue. We are actually gonna let this one speak for itself.” She delved into the controversy, saying, “She posted a picture on New Year’s Eve in her New Year’s Eve outfit, and there was a lot of disgusting, negative conversations happening in her comments about her outfit that prompted her to delete Instagram for a little bit.”

But just days later, Reese made her triumphant return. Four or five days later, the American Vogue cover came out. She came back on Instagram and posted a TikTok. The TikTok wasn’t just a comeback, it was a statement. Using an audio clip that cheekily said, “This is a message to all the haters: If you don’t like what I do but still watch everything I’m doing, you’re still a fan,” Reese delivered a flawless clapback that silenced her critics. Bird reacted to the TikTok by saying, “It’s just to clapback with the cover of the American Vogue, I have nothing else to say, she already spoke.”

While fans are busy trolling Reese for having an extravagant off-court life, it is important to note that Reese isn’t just using her fame to grow her business portfolio. She has been extensively working behind the scenes to promote women’s sports and give back to the community. Let’s take a look at that!

Angel Reese as a philanthropist

Standing at 6’3”, the Baltimore-raised superstar also gives back to the community through her Angel C Reese Foundation. The foundation is dedicated to helping the underrepresented and providing equal opportunities for girls. It focuses on areas such as sports, financial literacy, and other historically overlooked fields for girls.

“We are dedicated to empowering young women and the next generation through sports, education and financial literacy,” she says. “I want girls everywhere to know they’re in charge of their own athletic journey and that they can do anything.” While she is busy with her playing career, her mother, who is the president of the foundation, makes sure her venture reaches as many girls as possible.

Angel Reese redefines what it means to be a modern athlete, seamlessly balancing her on-court battles with her ever-growing business empire while also giving back to the community. Much like Lewis Hamilton, a fashion and cultural icon in his own right, Reese is breaking new milestones both on and off the court. Her influence is sure to inspire the next generation of athletes!
