The Fever may have lost the semifinals to the Aces, but they’ve certainly won hearts in Indiana. Just this Sunday, the Indiana Colts invited the team to their home game at Lucas Oil Stadium and honored them with customized Colts jerseys. While Makayla Timpson and Aari McDonald had no problem slipping theirs on, Caitlin Clark apparently did. She only posed with the jersey, smiling but never wearing it, making it clear that her NFL loyalty lies elsewhere. And she isn’t alone in that. Sophie Cunningham, who’s every bit as devoted to the Kansas City Chiefs as Clark, publicly backed her teammate’s choice. But in doing so, she also admitted to a slight shift in her own allegiance.
In the latest episode of her Show Me Something podcast, she addressed Clark’s refusal, saying, “I’m not surprised by it ’cause you know what? Everyone’s trying to get her to wear something or do something, and for her to be like, ‘meh, I’m here but I’m going to represent the Chiefs, baby.’ I love it.” Now, Cunningham herself wasn’t at this particular Colts game, but she’s attended one earlier this season and had a great experience…. Which is sort of changing her feelings for the team a little.
“I did go to a Colts game… it was awesome. I’m actually turning into a Colts fan a little bit. I like their players. I like them,” she said. Her co-host, West Wilson, pointed out just how great the Colts look this season. Just this Sunday, with Clark cheering for them or not, they managed to win over the Raiders 40-6 and improve their record to 4-1. But for Cunningham, her budding feelings for the Colts are not tied to just the stat sheet.

“I’m totally a bandwagoner cause I just got traded to Indie and I’ve never watched the Colts my whole life. But when I did go there, everyone was so nice. And the beer and food was so good too,” she added. And even before that, in the August 26 episode of her podcast, she had openly said, “I will definitely go and check out the Colts. I don’t have any beef with them. But I think deep down, I will always have my team, which is the Chiefs. But I am so down to go and support the team (Colts). I am all for that. I am not weird about that.” Cunningham, a Missouri native, has on occasion claimed that she’s been a Chiefs fan for as long as she can remember, but that has never stopped her from following other teams as she tries to mingle with the culture of whatever state or town she’s in.
Back in June, she was spotted with her Fever teammates, cheering on for the Indiana Pacers. She even arrived at Game 6 of the NBA Finals sporting a Pacers crewneck with denims. Speaking of that, even Clark had donned a Pacers hype shirt that fans were given prior to the start of the game for Game 1. Many saw that as a sign of her embracing the city of Indianapolis since coming over from Iowa. But, now we guess not.

Sophie Cunningham steps back from WNBA drama after backing Napheesa Collier
Cunningham has been one of the most active players in the WNBA with regard to the CBA conversation and the criticism towards the leadership. Cunningham was one of the first players to showcase support for Napheesa Collier after her bombshell of an exit interview.
“Everything that Napheesa (Collier) said, we all feel that way, and we’re all going to back her, and I think that’s pretty strong coming from her. I think a lot of us have been saying that, but when it comes from someone of that caliber of a player, that we’re being serious.” Cunningham said.

That was not the only Cunningham statement, as she has been constantly at the management’s throat for answers. However, as the season is winding down, she wants to move away from the controversy to a peaceful break. “Are you watching the finals?” Cunningham’s co-host, West Wilson, asked.

The Fever star replied, “I haven’t. Hell no. I haven’t watched a lick of the WNBA. I don’t know what’s going on. I’ve talked to my teammates, like the day that we did exit interviews and all of that. I haven’t, like, I need a cleanse.”
These days, the WNBA is less about basketball and more about the things happening away from the court. Cunningham isn’t a part of the WNBPA leadership either. So she has the option of moving away from the conversations for a bit. Regardless, Cunningham and her fellow players seem to trust Collier and Co. as the CBA deadline nears.
