Sabrina Ionescu is in the city of light once again! The WNBA and Unrivaled star is currently playing for the Phantom BC in the new 3v3 league. Her campaign could be going better given her team has lost both games so far. A couple of days left until the next matchup and the New York Liberty icon looks to be diverting her mind and possibly catchup on some NBA action.
The men’s league has made it to Paris, and with it, a lot of star power is getting involved. There are two games with the Indiana Pacers and the San Antonio Spurs scheduled for the 23rd and the 25th. This might particularly be a special moment for the people of Paris, as local hero Victor Wembanyama is back in town to play. The 2024 ROTY’s Olympic heroics were a great storyline for the French, as the young center carried France to the silver medal alongside Guerschon Yabusele and Rudy Gobert.
Looks like Sabrina Ionescu might not miss out on the homecoming moment as she has touched down Paris.

In a recent Instagram story, Ionescu posted a photo of the Eiffel Tower with the caption ‘been a minute.’ She followed it up with an image of her alongside her husband Hroniss Grasu at the Paris Saint-Germain — Man City game. This naturally has one speculating if she is to witness one of the most exciting events of the NBA this season. Reports suggest that fans from over 53 countries and 24 U.S. states are expected to fly in and be a part of the activations and community events throughout the metropolitan area.
The Phantom BC star guard has a game against Mist BC on the 24th, which gives her just enough wiggle room to appear in the NBA Paris event. While it is unlikely, it definitely isn’t impossible. And Sabby could use a moment too.
Sabrina Ionescu’s Unrivaled struggles
Playing for the Phantom BC, it was a perfect fit on paper. The star power of Satou Sabally, Brittney Griner, and Ionescu should have been enough to dominate against all other teams. However, a string of bad luck hit the star-studded club.

Marina Mabrey, a talented shooting guard for the Connecticut Suns, was meant to help out Ionescu and Griner in Phantom. However, before even the start of the season, Mabrey got sidelined for a couple of weeks with a calf strain. On top of that, Natisha Hiedeman, the relief player that they signed, fell ill before the first match-up.

Ionescu, too, admitted to not being her 100% following a surgery to repair a torn UCL in her right thumb. But she has managed to lead the team in scoring twice with 18 and 14 point performances. The team effort, however, was visible during the second game as 5 of the 6 players scored in double digits and shot better in terms of both, field goals and 3-pointers, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Arike Ogunbowale-led Vinyl. It was a bitter 84-69 defeat.
