Indiana Fever players and fans have found themselves in a conundrum, but this is the kind of problem any WNBA team would happily have. As the regular season draws to a close, the Fever have not one but two players in the MVP conversation. One is Caitlin Clark, and the other one is Kelsey Mitchell. So for Sophie Cunningham, it’s a hard choice to pick one among these two, given the season they have had.

“I just think it’s crazy because I have two great players on my team, and I’m going to hype both of them up like I could make an argument that Kelsey should be MVP, I can make a big argument that CC should be MVP, and we totally hype both of them up,” Cunningham said on her No Hesitation podcast, while clearing the air about her comments about Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark.

“But you know how the internet works, so they just wanted to clip whatever, but yeah, that was actually psychotic, but that gives you a little bit of a taste of like what the WNBA media is like, and so that’s why we’re starting this so people can get some good media from the W.”

In the September 11 episode of No Hesitation, Cunningham praised Mitchell and even made a case for her as MVP. This did not sit well with some of Caitlin Clark’s fans and the media, who immediately went after Cunningham for picking Mitchell over Clark. So her latest comments clear the air regarding her opinion, indicating that she supports both of her teammates equally.

It’s hard to be in Cunningham’s position right now. Both her teammates have had a phenomenal season, and it’s hard to pick one over the other.

Caitlin Clark is jointly leading the league in assists, averaging 8.4 per game, while contributing 22.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Caitlin Clark is third in the league in the scoring chart, behind only A’ja Wilson and her teammate Kelsey Mitchell.

While Clark is not only one of the two leading scorers for this Indiana team, she is quite efficient in her scoring as well. She has an FG% of 45.6 and a three-point percentage of 37.3. It is Caitlin Clark’s ability to find her teammates with accurate passing and stretch the opponents’ defense that makes her such a dangerous ball operator when she is on the court.

But Caitlin Clark has missed some game time this season due to injuries. While analysts expected a dip in Indiana’s form and results, nothing of the sort happened, as Kelsey Mitchell took on the playmaking mantle.

Being the bedrock of consistency, Mitchell is averaging 25.0 points, 1.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game over 40 games. Mitchell has emerged as a lethal offensive option for the Fever, shooting a staggering 51.3 % from the floor and 45.5% from beyond the arc.

So it’s no surprise that during the first episode of her new podcast, Cunningham and her co-host Drew Hanlen dissected Kelsey Mitchell’s game and even made the case for Mitchell as the MVP.

“But anytime you need a bucket, it is like, get Kelsey the ball, and everyone get the hell out of the way. And it’s it’s so nice being on that team because I’m just like, Oh, stand in the corner. Let me know what you need,” Cunningham said.

“Like, but she’s just she’s a beast, and her numbers for a bit. Like, she’s my MVP. And I know that, A’ja, you know, I think you could that’s a great argument, too. A’ja is a phenomenal player. She’s going to be the GOAT probably one day, but I think Kelsey’s given her a really good run for her money this year.”

At the end of the day, Indiana fans are just looking to end their title drought that stretches back to 2012. For now, the Fever and Caitlin Clark are locked in a battle for the fourth seed with the Atlanta Dream and will look to focus their energies on winning the last four regular-season games and perhaps improve their playoff seeding.
