When you’re a No. 1 pick, succeeding the enigmatic sensation, Caitlin Clark, the expectations are sky high since the first tip-off. And that’s the pressure cooker in which Paige Bueckers stepped in for the Dallas Wings. She wasn’t helped by the fact that the Wings are, statistically, one of the worst teams in the league, and yet she has lived up to the billing with her performances. Asked about the same, PB revealed that the drill is simple. “I just try to be the best version of myself I can be for my team at the end of the day,” she shared during an August 12 interview with Voice in Sport. And, “best version of herself,” yes, she is, but her potential has no ceiling right now.

This is evident from her impressive performance, as she aims to join CC as one of the best players in the league. While her double-digit scoring is already a hit during the winless Wings’ games, her impact has taken her to the next level as she has now officially surpassed Cynthia Cooper for the third-longest streak of consecutive double-digit games by a rookie in W history. It all came on August 21 when the Wings entered Crypto.com Arena in front of 13,598 fans to throw a spanner in the works for the LA Sparks’ playoff efforts.

No doubt, the Wings failed in their attempt as the Sparks won 81-80, but the spotlight for the entire game was on Bueckers as she ended up with 44 points, going 17-for-21 FG and 6-for-6 FT, contributing more than half her team’s points. That made her break Cooper’s record of the third-longest streak of consecutive double-digit scores with 29 games. But while she’s at No. 3 now, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she manages to surpass A’ja Wilson’s All-time record of 33 games before the end of the regular season.

But as the Rookie of the Year favorite says that she’s “running her own race and not the race of comparison,” it’s clear that she’s here to dominate. That is evident from the fact that Bueckers has already broken multiple rookie records, most of them set by Caitlin Clark in her rookie season. For context, PB became the fastest hooper to 300 points and 100 assists in WNBA history. It took her just 19 games!

Just a couple of days ago, she became the fastest player in W history to reach 500+ points and 150+ assists, all while delivering an average of 18.8 points per game. So yes, that’s the level PB has set for herself. But it’s not just the stats the rookie sensation is using to take over Caitlin Clark!

Paige Bueckers is also drawing the eyes of neutrals!

When Bueckers warmed up before the game, fans lined up behind the Wings’ bench, watching the 23-year-old rookie sensation intently as she went through the motions with staff. And that crowd grew minute by minute until PB, after speaking to reporters, made her way to sign jerseys and click pictures with the fans.

So yeah, that kind of fan encounter is a common sight at PB’s games. And with nearly a month remaining before the postseason, that effect is already showing, as the 2025 regular season has set an all-time attendance record with over 2.3 million fans attending games, breaking the previous record of 2,364,736 fans back in 2002. Yes, it wasn’t just her solo effort, but she was a big draw for the crowds, especially the neutrals.

But the surprising part? All this comes when Caitlin Clark—the game changer for women’s basketball—has been limited to 13 games due to her four injuries this season and has only appeared in eight of the Fever’s 18 home games, which drew 300,000 fans at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, leading the attendance list. That clarifies that the narrative around CC is slowly shifting. And Paige Bueckers is slowly becoming the star people come to watch, regardless of their allegiances.
