Olivia Miles led her college basketball team to the Elite Eight, but would that success translate into the WNBA as well? That was the question surrounding the rookie star before she got drafted as the second overall pick by the Minnesota Lynx this year. After all, the former TCU star barely had a chance to catch her breath before making the jump to the pros. However, ever since stepping up as Lynx’s rookie floor general, she has done nothing but make headlines. So when Minnesota locked horns with the Portland Fire on Monday, Miles once again found herself adding another milestone to her growing résumé.

The Lynx rolled past the Fire 107-74 in a Commissioner’s Cup matchup, and Miles played a key role in this victory. The 23-year-old finished with 12 points, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals in just 23 minutes while shooting 6-of-8 from the field.

Now, that performance marked her sixth consecutive game where she has scored at least 10 points while shooting 55% or better from the field. And according to ESPN Insights, this is the second-longest streak by a guard in WNBA history.

Here’s the thing: in Minnesota’s previous game, the Las Vegas Aces snapped their eight-game winning streak, while Miles finished with a career-high six turnovers. So this dominant win over Portland gave both the rookie and her team the response they were looking for.

Besides Olivia Miles, Natasha Howard led the charge with 18 points, as a total of seven Minnesota players finished in double figures in what was one of the Lynx’s most complete performances of the season.

Portland never threatened; the game was already out of their control. But beyond the box score, another storyline around Miles once again came into focus.

Just a few games ago, the Lynx rookie caught fire against the Golden State Valkyries and knocked down eight three-pointers. That performance set a new WNBA rookie record for most threes in a game, passing Caitlin Clark’s previous mark of seven from the 2024 season.

See, that explosion stood out because of how her season started from deep. Before that breakout night, Miles made just 2 of her 18 attempts from beyond the arc, so after the Valkyries game, many expected her outside shooting struggles to end.

But in her latest outing, Miles missed all her three-point attempts — her eighth game without a made three. As the season moves forward, that will be an area she needs to work on. However, struggles in one aspect of her game don’t change the fact that with her on the roster, the Lynx are dominating the 2026 season.

Olivia Miles Leads the Charge as Lynx Stay Hot

With this win in their bag, the Lynx moved to 11-3 on the season as they look to rebuild their winning streak after the Aces broke it in their last game with a 100-97 win.

Their only other losses so far came in:

  • A 91-90 defeat to the Atlanta Dream on opening night
  • An 86-79 loss to the Chicago Sky on May 17.

In all cases, the margins were small, with the Lynx right in the fight until the final minutes but unable to close things out.

But Minnesota has responded to all their losses in a strong fashion, building consistency that has pushed them to the top of the WNBA standings.

A major reason behind that rise has been Olivia Miles. The rookie is currently averaging 18.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game as she continues to establish herself as one of the most productive first-year players in the league. If she maintains this level, Minnesota’s strong start will only become more dangerous as the season moves forward.

And if you zoom out to her season-long pace, the numbers get even more striking. At this rate, Miles is on track to finish the season with around 819 points, which would put her in position to surpass the WNBA rookie scoring record of 769 points set by Caitlin Clark in 2024.

For now, Miles and the Lynx will not have much time to slow down or reflect on their recent form. Minnesota is back in action on June 17 against the Los Angeles Sparks, with just one day of rest before they hit the floor again.
