So far this season, Olivia Miles isn’t just living up to expectations; she’s transforming the perception of a standout rookie season. The No. 2 draftee has been on a record-breaking spree ever since she stepped foot in the league. Miles’ latest performance against Portland Fire even saw her surpass Caitlin Clark’s milestone and tie Paige Bueckers’.

Miles’ stat line against the Fire included 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists in a 74-107 blowout win. While these performances weren’t as good as her other stats in the last few weeks, it was enough to take her past the 250 points and 80 assists mark.

She achieved this feat in just the 14th game of her rookie season, tying her for the fastest time to achieve it with Bueckers. Meanwhile, Clark, who had a stellar rookie season herself, took a bit more time while achieving this feat.

From being a ferocious three-point shooter to an accurate playmaker, Olivia Miles has done everything for the Minnesota Lynx this season. Early on in the season against the Golden State Valkyries, Miles had already surpassed Clark’s record for the most three-pointers in a single game.

Miles scored eight against the Valkyries, while CC had a record of seven in her rookie season. Furthermore, the Minnesota guard was also on the brink of surpassing Bueckers’ record for the most points scored or assisted in the first 10 games of a rookie season. Miles finished with 317, just a point short of Bueckers’ tally.

Olivia Miles’ impact doesn’t just end there. According to Sports Illustrated, Miles will even surpass Caitlin Clark’s tally of most points in a rookie season if she continues to score with this same consistency throughout the season. Thus, it’s quite clear from these numbers that Miles isn’t just fitting herself into the league.

Instead, she is rewriting the league’s history book. And at this moment, even the opposition is in awe of Miles’ talent. For example, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham recently heaped praise on Miles for her stellar rookie season.

“I know that they said Olivia Miles was up for rookie. She’s going to get Rookie of the Year,” she said on her Show Me Something podcast. “I don’t know if anyone has watched her play, whoever’s listening to this, she is a beast. An actual beast. She is. I’m not kidding.”

Even against the Portland Fire, Miles showed her mettle despite having just 23 minutes of game time. The Minnesota rookie nailed 6 of 8 from the field for 75% while also racking up 3 steals. While Natasha Howard, Courtney Williams, and Nia Coffey did most of the scoring on the night, it was Miles again who anchored the offense on the court.

And subsequently, her performance was lauded by her head coach yet again.

Cheryl Reeve Raves About Olivia Miles’ Skill Set After Portland Fire Performance

In these first 14 games of the season, Olivia Miles has been the franchise’s go-to player. Despite being a rookie, Miles currently leads the team in points and assists, as per ESPN. A lot of the credit for Miles’ success should go to Minnesota head coach Cheryl Reeve for giving her the perfect platform to flourish.

After all, it was Reeve who made Miles an outright starter in her team, giving her more minutes on the court. But Reeve feels that the major props behind these successes should go to Miles alone.

“Olivia Miles, going back to high school, if you just watch her and her vision, just like seeing things before people see it, the velocity that she throws her passes, I mean she’s special,” Reeve said in the post-game presser as per Minnesota Lynx’s YouTube channel. “I’m not going to sit here and say that we knew from day one she would be a top-three player in the league.”

“None of us were sitting there saying that. So, real credit to Liv. She’s been as I’ve said a few times the humility, curiosity, every game. She wants to know exactly what we know, and then she can go apply it,” the Minnesota head coach added.

Olivia Miles’ start to the season has been exceptional. It will be interesting to see how far she can extend this ceiling going forward in the season. Nevertheless, the Minnesota Lynx are in a very comfortable spot after this win. The team is 11-3 this season, sitting atop the Western Conference.

The Minnesota Lynx face tough opposition against the Los Angeles Sparks on June 17 at the Crypto.com Arena.
