It seems the Indiana Fever has finally addressed its guard woes. With Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald sidelined for the season, and injured Caitlin Clark spending extended time on the bench, the team was in a tough spot. Their answer came in the form of veteran guard Odyssey Sims, a temporary but experienced solution.

For any midseason addition, strong chemistry and mutual respect are key, and Sims already seems to have that with Clark. During her stint with the Dallas Wings last year, Sims publicly praised the young guard, hinting at a smooth transition into the Fever lineup.

“Everybody’s been watching Caitlin; she’s a great player,” Sims said back in 2024. “She’s playing at a very high level, especially with her assists. There are a lot of shots she turned down because she was looking for her teammates.” The veteran guard added that while she does not know Caitlin Clark as a person, she respects her a lot as a player.

Sims will now have a chance to know her on a personal level, too. The veteran guard will be alongside CC in this tumultuous time for the Indiana Fever. They have signed her to a hardship contract following their qualification for the hardship roster spot due to the injuries to Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald. And the eleven-year track record of Sims speaks volumes.

Who is Odyssey Sims, the new teammate of Caitlin Clark?

There was a gap in the point guard position for the Fever with Clark missing her tenth consecutive game. However, Kelsey Mitchell stepped in and shone during their game against Chicago. She scored 26 points, dished 8 assists, and committed just 1 turnover. With Sims now on the roster, Mitchell can focus on her offensive duties as Sims runs the floor as a traditional point guard.

Sims began the 2025 season with the LA Sparks. She averaged 9.8 points and 3.5 assists in 11 starts. Unfortunately, the Sparks waived her on July 2 after she missed games for personal reasons. But don’t judge her on this off-performance this season. This year’s numbers do not define her. Over 11 WNBA seasons, Sims has averaged 11.2 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.5 rebounds.

In 2019, with the Lynx, she earned her first All-Star selection and made the All-WNBA Second Team. She was averaging 14.5 points, 5.4 assists, and 1.4 steals with Minnesota. Sims has consistently delivered strong scoring and playmaking throughout her career, with standout performances in her rookie seasons and valuable veteran leadership more recently.

She is a great fit for Caitlin Clark and co, who are fighting an uphill battle with injuries. Sims will wear number 1 for the Fever. The Indiana Fever will next face the Dallas Wings in Gainbridge Fieldhouse on August 12.
