Caitlin Clark’s first senior World Cup game was already destined to be memorable, but while the Team USA guard was making history, Nike made sure that her big international moment came with a massive celebration off the court.

Nike took the time to set up a major Clark-themed event in Berlin to celebrate the launch of Clark’s new Caitlin 1 shoe, making her the latest WNBA athlete to receive a signature sneaker. A video on X by @CClarkReport showcased an inside view of the festivities, which had much to offer for guests.
The event, which took place the day after Team USA’s debut against China on September 4, was called the “Caitlin 1 Tournament” and was hosted at Alte Munze in Berlin, meant to turn the launch of Clark’s shoe into a wider basketball showcase.
The highlight of the event was a 16-player 1v1 tournament on an indoor court, with a fully functioning wide-screen serving as a scoreboard. There were two divisions, one featuring eight men and the other featuring eight women. The winner was given €1,000.
Apart from the tournament, guests were also given the chance to get a close-up look at the Caitlin 1, along with friendship bracelets, a stocked juice bar, a dunk show, as well as plant customization. It also featured Berlin-based DJ Hanaby on the music.
The event followed an outstanding day for Clark at the World Cup. In her first game, the guard delivered a team-high 14 points and 11 assists in Team USA’s 94-61 demolition of China. Importantly, Clark’s 11 assists marked the first time an American player had logged double-digit assists in 28 years, with it previously having been done by Dawn Staley, who finished a game against Russia in 1998 with 12.
What made this even more impressive was the fact that Clark recorded zero turnovers, showcasing her elite playmaking ability even while logging 25 minutes.
Clark ended up being named TCL Player of the Game, but when speaking to reporters, she gave the credit for her assist totals to her talented teammates.
“Being surrounded by five people who have won gold medals before at the highest level, I try to follow their lead and take every bit of wisdom they try to give me,” Clark said, per FIBA.
“Playing around so many talented players… anybody I pass the ball to, it feels like they are never gonna miss a shot… That’s one of my goals when I come to a game; facilitate and play fast, set up my teammates, get in the paint and get some penetration, especially with their zone, that was one of my focus points coming into the game.”
Even Angel Reese became a part of the historic night. Clark’s 10th assist was a one-handed pass slung to her longtime rival, who finished at the basket through contact. Reese finished with a team-high nine rebounds along with five assists, and the pair looked completely in tune, even sharing a wholesome moment on the sideline.
During the game, while Reese was talking to head coach Kara Lawson while waiting to check in, she saw Clark trying to check in to the game before the buzzer sounded, and ended up stopping her. They then checked into the game together.
In addition to the massive event Nike held to celebrate Clark’s shoe, the company also prepared two special colorways for the star guard beforehand. On August 31, Clark posted two Instagram stories showcasing special red-and-white Player Exclusive colorways for the World Cup. The shoes are designed to go along with the red and white Team USA jerseys, and are not expected to see a retail release.
Though Clark went to Berlin to help Team USA bring home gold, Nike is making the most of the opportunity and turning her name into a global brand. Now, with Clark’s shoe set to release on October 1, her impact is quickly growing far beyond her on-court play.
