Just last month, Caitlin Clark melted Indy’s hearts by repping a “Kelsey Mitchell for MVP” t-shirt. For a moment, it felt like the entire city exhaled in agreement. Finally, the underdog was getting her flowers. Mitchell, afterall, is a 3x WNBA All-Star, a Commissioner’s Cup champion, and the franchise leader in points per game since the Tamika Catchings era. Now, she’s running a full-blown MVP campaign, and it feels justified.

For Fever faithful, the sting is still fresh from the night Natasha Howard was named Commissioner’s Cup MVP. Many in Indy thought Mitchell deserved that honor, and they let it be known. Now, with the franchise pushing her name front and center, Mitchell has a fair shot at the league’s biggest individual award. It’s a bigger deal because for Kelsey Mitchell, this recognition is long overdue. Rewind three years, and you hear the pain in Emily Engstler’s voice after a postgame presser: “Finding out was a sad day for her and the entire team. She got robbed.”
She was talking about Mitchell’s All-Star snub in 2022, the same Mitchell who had been pouring in buckets while the Fever kept missing the playoffs. Back then, her story was the same: overlooked, overshadowed, and somehow left out of the spotlight. But the tables have turned… and maybe even been renovated. Just one glance at the package the Fever sent to reporter Khristina Williams will prove that. Drenched in Fever red, it was a statement of value, a bold signal that this franchise is putting its weight behind Kelsey Mitchell like never before. (Yes, it also included an Aliyah Boston campaign piece for All-WNBA Team, but the spotlight was undeniably Mitchell’s.)

The franchise curated it to perfection, and it looked like a lot of thought went into it. And Khristina Williams didn’t shy away from giving us a full tour. The very first thing that caught our eye was the mini hoop set, complete with a bright orange rim and white net. As she unboxed it all, inside was a glossy Fever-red card stamped boldly with the words “Certified Bucket”, the kind of tagline that has followed Mitchell throughout her career.

Then, there was a miniature red basketball, etched with the Indiana Fever logo. The franchise didn’t stop at visuals, though; they leaned into sensory delight, too. A large pack of Lindt Lindor Milk Chocolates was nestled inside, its signature red wrapping almost blending into the Fever palette. Next, layered flat inside, were miniature jersey cutouts (Mitchell’s No. 0 and Aliyah Boston’s No. 7).
Alongside, a polished Playbook-style booklet featured Aliyah Boston on the cover. It perfectly laid out her All-WNBA campaign. Inside, a personal letter from GM Amber Cox described Boston as “one of the brightest young stars in the WNBA.” But it was Mitchell’s section that hit the loudest note. Here’s how it looked-
Indiana Fever went All Out for Kelsey Mitchell
On a fiery, Fever-red background, the words blazed: “Kelsey Mitchell is a Certified Bucket.” Another page laid out the full MVP & All-WNBA case in hard numbers:
- 842 points (1st in league & franchise history)
- 20.5 points per game (3rd in league, 1st in franchise history)
- 105 three-pointers made (1st in league)
- Fever’s all-time leader in threes, surpassing Tamika Catchings
- Set record with 11 30+ point games across career
- Currently averaging 20.5 points
It was bold, loud, and dripping in Fever pride. The package made one thing clear: after years of being overlooked, Kelsey Mitchell is finally the centerpiece. And this franchise is determined to see her crowned as MVP. Honestly, it shouldn’t shock anyone as Indy’s already gone public with their intentions. Their X account launched her candidacy with a hype video captioned simply: “Kelsey Mitchell is a HOOPER. Her MVP and All-WNBA case keeps getting louder.”
And louder it got. Just rewind to her career-high 38-point masterpiece in Connecticut. It was a night that could’ve been ripped straight from a campaign ad. Mitchell flat-out stole the game from the Sun, dropping 34 of those points after halftime, torching the nets on 11-of-22 shooting, burying five threes, and coolly sinking 11 of 12 free throws. She even scored Indiana’s first 10 points in overtime!

So of course, her coach, Stephanie White, wasn’t about to let that go unnoticed. “I also think, let’s not forget Kelsey Mitchell. What Kelsey Mitchell has done with this group, and every time we’ve had a setback. Her numbers have just continued to get better. When you think about a player that has been most valuable to their franchise throughout the course of a season, Kelsey Mitchell’s name has to be in there (MVP race), as well,” White said, and honestly, it couldn’t ring truer.
So here we are, MVP ballots looming, with Mitchell’s name now inked among the heavyweights. A’ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier, Alyssa Thomas, and yes, finally, Kelsey Mitchell. Who’s your pick, though?
