Kelsey Mitchell exploded as one of the WNBA’s best scorers last season, and the guard has only gotten better as time has gone on. In last night’s game against the Toronto Tempo, Mitchell established two new personal milestones that have made it impossible to overlook just how far she has come, even overtaking A’ja Wilson in her efforts.

After knocking down a three-pointer against the Toronto Tempo, Mitchell reached 1,023 points for the season, moving past Wilson’s 2024, 1,021 mark and breaking her record for the most points in a single season. The WNBA immediately took note of the milestone and posted about the moment on their X account.

Mitchell notched yet another signature performance against the Tempo, logging 33 points on 12-for-17 shooting, adding seven three-pointers, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. This display of her offensive prowess showcases her impact in getting the Fever’s 27th win of the season.
Mitchell breaking the record drew reactions from all over the league, including from reporters, notably Meghan L. Hall of USA Today.
“1,023 points and counting…What a season for Mitchell. Incredible. Came on a fitting rainbow arc 3-ball,” she wrote on X.
It also drew reactions from within the Fever organisation, including from Caitlin Clark, who liked the Instagram post announcing Mitchell’s accomplishment and reposted it on her Story, highlighting the big night from her backcourt partner.
Apart from Clark, it also earned a reaction from the former Fever head coach, general manager, and current senior advisor to the team, Lin Dunn. The 79-year-old took to X to post “🎉💥🎉💥🎉💥” emojis, showcasing how big the accomplishment means to those closest to Mitchell professionally.
Interestingly, for all the fanfare about her achievement, Mitchell herself didn’t seem to realize that she had broken the record until she was first told about it. Following the win over the Tempo, Mitchell was asked when she learned that she had broken the scoring milestone, and her reply was quite amusing. She seemed shocked when she was told about her milestones during the post-game interview on the live broadcast, causing the studio to break into laughs.
“I think you just told me to be honest,” she said.
This wasn’t the only record Kelsey Mitchell achieved on the night. She also broke the single-season record for most three-pointers made by a Fever player, notching 123 triples by the end of the game. Three of these came in the first half, while the last four came in the second, leading the Fever to another victory.
The single-season scoring milestone now belongs to Mitchell, and judging by the reactions from her teammates and the rest of the WNBA world, everyone has already realized how special it is.
