The last time the Indiana Fever faced the Phoenix Mercury, Alyssa Thomas’s fist-to-the-throat foul against Caitlin Clark, the one that rocked the league for weeks, happened. In their Wednesday night encounter, three games in between, another Thomas-related incident has drawn attention. This time, it was an elbow to the nose. And the recipient was Lexie Hull.

As seen in the video Kyle Ingram shared on X, Alyssa Thomas this time around was simply attempting to score after picking up the loose ball close to the rim. Hull, in a bid to contest the shot, met Thomas’s shoulder as she elevated, and went to the floor. The result was a bloodied nose that had her spending time on the sideline dabbing at her face.

Unlike the Caitlin Clark situation, where the foul went uncalled in real time, this one was actually reviewed by the officials. However, the review ruled in Thomas’s favour, judging the contact as a legal basketball play. As a result, Thomas stepped to the free throw line while Hull had to go to the bench still dabbing her nose.

The incident occurred very early in the third quarter, with the Phoenix Mercury ahead at the time. And for all the contact it produced, Thomas’s shot did not even find the basket.

This was the second time in three games that Alyssa Thomas has been involved with a foul featuring Indiana’s key players. While the Caitlin Clark incident led to online harassment, the reaction to this foul has been tame so far.

However, that doesn’t mean no one reacted to the incident on social media. Kevin Durant’s podcast co-host Eddie Gonzalez took a shot at the WNBA’s officiating on X.

“Lexie Hull’s nose just fouled Alyssa Thomas’ elbow,” Gonzalez wrote.

That being said, Lexie Hull is no stranger to physical plays. She was on the receiving end of multiple hard plays last year in August. On August 24, 2025, Hull faced a similar foul when Kayla McBride made contact with her elbow to the Fever star’s face.

The following game, she got two black eyes after clashing heads with Gabby Williams. Yet, none of those hits could keep her out, and it’s unlikely this latest hit will keep Lexie Hull away from the court either.

Ultimately, the game ended in the Indiana Fever’s favour. They closed out a 92-89 victory, with Hull herself contributing 10 points on the night. Whatever the chaos around the Thomas collision, it’s safe to say the Fever had the last word when it mattered most.
