Kelly Krauskopf and Amber Cox raised some eyebrows during the 2025 WNBA draft. They had back-to-back picks in the second round, and after Timpson was drafted, an Iowa union was expected at the Indiana Fever with Lucy Olsen. After all, picking a pass-first Hawkeye point guard panned out well for them last year! However, they went another way and boy, is that looking good for the franchise!
looked towards Dawn Staley’s expertise and drafted Bree Hall from South Carolina. The six-foot-tall guard is a limited-minutes 3&D player, and can really shoot the rock from beyond the arc. However, she wasn’t considered nearly as good of a prospect as Olsen. Needless to say, the Indiana community was shocked and disappointed.
The thing is, Makayla Timpson was a steal. She was meant to go much higher in the WNBA draft, and the organization was lucky to snag her so late. Hall, on the other hand? She wasn’t even expected to make it into the second round. The tall sharpshooter was a projected third-round pick, and the confusion was real when she was picked early. But all’s not lost. On ESPN’s The Elle Duncan Show, the namesake host pointed out how Bree Hall coming to Indiana could really be a blessing in disguise.

“I don’t know if everybody knows this. When they drafted Bree Hall in the second round from South Carolina, they reunited Bree with her best friend Aliyah Boston. They’re like besties,” she said, and in moments, the draft pick was a lot more heart-warming on Indiana’s end.
Boston and Hall played for 2 years on Staley’s squad, winning a championship in 2022. But it wasn’t long before the former National Player of the Year was adorning Indiana Fever colors, winning ROTY, and getting calls for advice from Hall. During the SEC Media Day in her junior year, the guard had revealed how often she called Boston to seek answers. “What should I do about this? What should I do about these situations?” she would place the questions.
The Gamecocks were entering a new era after the championship. Hall was the leader now, and she’d rely on no one better than Boston. “Having her just always in my corner and having that person to always rely on when I need to ask a question, when I don’t know something, or just simple leadership questions. I mean, I always go to her,” she had admitted. But this dynamic wasn’t to be limited to the court. Off of it, they have gone on to hype each other up on their socials and showed up for games when necessary.
So it isn’t a surprise when Duncan says, “They are real best friends. Not like ‘you’re my teammate so I call you my bestie.'” Genuine camaraderies, especially ones that last for a long time, are rare. So, to have two best friends on the team? It really means a lot.
Sure, Olsen would have been a great offensive addition for a team heavy on it. But the Fever know what they are doing. If you ask Boston, “Breezy is that girl. Put that in there.” Their friendship has previously helped South Carolina, when the Fever star’s words were effective enough for the out-of-form Hall to settle down, focus, and lead her team to a win over LSU last season. “I gotta give it up to Aliyah Boston today,” Staley had attested.
Now think how that’s gonna benefit Fever! Yes, closing their defensive lapses with her addition on one side, but a real impactful chemistry on another.

Contrary to the public’s reaction, the Indiana Fever was quite excited to have Bree Hall onboard! The six-foot-tall guard will provide a burst of energy on the perimeter, both offensively and defensively. She’s a high percentage shooter, and can impact the game at a high level with less touches. She even holds the moniker “Big Shot Breezy” in the Gamecocks circle because she always shows up in the clutch!

Not only that, she has earned her stripes defensively. Hall is quick on her feet as a perimeter defender, and her energy is relentless. Even Dawn Staley has the six-foot-tall pesky defender in her top-five list. For a team that finished 9th on the defensive end last season, such rookie additions were always the goal. It’s a tick for the team, and a tick for Boston.
