The WNBA regular season will resume on September 17, and with only four games left for each team before the postseason begins, the conversation around this season’s MVP is heating up. The debate has been polarizing, with talents like reigning MVP A’ja Wilson, Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark, and Minnesota Lynx’s Napheesa Collier among the favorites for the title. Naturally, for the Indiana Fever, the scales tilt to one side.

Sitting fifth in the WNBA standings, the Fever are publicly throwing their weight behind Caitlin Clark with a campaign video of the 24-year-old guard. On Wednesday, they posted a short, 38-second video on X, captioned, “Caitlin Clark for MVP 😤 CC is averaging 22.5 PPG (No. 3 in WNBA), 45.6 FG%, 8.4 APG (No. 2 in WNBA), 3.9 RPG & 1.0 SPG this season 💪.”

First off, a mistake in the caption didn’t sit right with many fans, as they pointed out that Clark was, in fact, tied for No. 1 in the assists in the WNBA and not No. 2.

“1st in assist! Come on,” one fan wrote. While another added, “You m****s can’t even get CC’s stats right. CC is tied for 1st in assists.”

One of the best parts of Caitlin Clark’s performance this season has been her playmaking skills, and it has played a major role in why she is considered one of the top contenders for this honor.

She is currently averaging 8.4 assists per game, and that has kept her at the top of the WNBA, tied with Alyssa Thomas of the Phoenix Mercury. But the caption error aside, Clark has proven herself as one of the best players in the league.

She is the league’s third-best scorer, averaging 22.5 points per game. She also averages 3.9 rebounds, and her 60.8% true-shooting percentage is solid, playing a major role in keeping the Indiana Fever at the top of Offensive Leaders with a 97.0 points-per-game average.

Yet many still don’t believe she should win the award.

“She’s not even the best player on her team how is she MVP,” one fan added, seemingly referring to Kelsey Mitchell’s heroics.

Caitlin Clark’s case for the MVP does have some cracks. She is the second-top scorer on her team, as Kelsey Mitchell leads with 25.0 points per game. Mitchell has also been one of the most consistent players for Indiana, while Clark had a very slow start to the season.

Besides that, the Fever guard also leads the league in turnovers, averaging 4.6 per game. And because of that, there have been moments late in games when her costly mistakes have hurt Indiana’s chances. She also leads the league in technical fouls, a spot she shares with her arch-rival-turned-friend Angel Reese.

Another wrote fan highlighted Clark’s relative lack of defensive prowess, writing “Ok now show the Defensive stats 😂😂😂 don’t be shy.”

So even though Clark has taken responsibility for her errors, they still remain difficult to overlook in the race for MVP.

Then there is A’ja Wilson, who currently leads the league with 26.0 PPG and 2.0 blocks per game. She is widely considered a fan favorite for the honor as she looks to lead the Las Vegas Aces to another championship.

There is also Olivia Miles, the Minnesota Lynx rookie, whom many fans believe is sitting ahead of Caitlin Clark in the MVP race. Miles is not your typical first-year player. She has managed to keep the Lynx at the top of the standings and also made history by becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 650 points and 200 assists.

Still, some believe Caitlin Clark is the best contender for this award. After all, in August, she had the highest-scoring month by a point guard in WNBA history.

“Nobody dances, has the ball skills, passing, creativity, vision, aim like CC,” wrote one fan in support of the Fever’s post.

“How about all the records broken this year too,” added another.

With the regular season entering its final stretch, the MVP debate is only getting hotter. The Fever have made their choice clear, but with Wilson, Miles, and other contenders still in the conversation, the final decision is far from settled.
