It seems that the WNBA fanbase has been gripped by a ‘Fever’. And it’s based in Indiana. The league’s most popular franchise has once again hit a milestone as far as the viewership numbers are concerned: 1 million viewers on a Wednesday night.

The Indiana Fever’s game against the Toronto Tempo, which drew over a million viewers, was the most-watched cable/streaming game of 2026 yet, according to USA Network.

The million-viewer figure was 139% above the 2025 regular-season average. And experts and fans alike are pointing this out as a continuation of the Caitlin Clark (CC) effect. The Fever is the only WNBA franchise with all 44 games on national broadcast.

What is more impressive is the timing of this milestone. The Fever match against the Tempo was around the same time as the FIFA World Cup match between Iraq and Norway. The team still attracted its loyal fanbase. This proves that Caitlin Clark as a brand remains solid for both the Fever and the WNBA. Even when competing with traditional, proven names and tournaments.

Earlier in the month, the Fever vs Liberty matchup was the second most-watched WNBA match on any network since the year 2000, as per CBS Sports. It was the second-highest-viewed match in the last 26 years, including playoff games. The average viewership was 2.557 million, and the peak viewership was around 3.022 million viewers. It was also the most-watched match in the WNBA this season on any network.

The Fever team is also attracting the highest viewership in the stadium, even when they are on the road. According to the Washington Times, they have the highest away fan attendance at 16,580. This is 3000 higher than any other franchise. This has led to the slogan “Every game is a home game

Since being selected as the number one pick in 2024, Clark has had a transformational impact on the league in terms of growing its popularity. The 2024 draft was as much as five times more watched than the year before. And Clark’s popularity is not coming down anytime soon.

She has just entered the select group of players to have their own signature shoe. Nike announced the Caitlin 1, expected to release in October 2026.

Indiana Fever games regularly attract a viewership of 1 million and above. This is far beyond the numbers that any other team gets.

With Great Spotlight Comes an Even Greater Scrutiny

While it is good to be so popular, it has its downsides as well. Every action, move, and development is closely watched. This is true for both Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. In recent weeks, the Fever have found themselves in the news, not always for the best of reasons.

Earlier in the year, there were rumours of their head coach, Stephanie White, being replaced. While they were downplayed by Coach White, the speculation remained in the news.

Much was made about the court-side heated exchange between Clark and White in the game against Portland. This was addressed and clarified by both of them, and they insisted that they have a very healthy and productive relationship.

So only time will tell how positive this spotlight turns out to be for Clark and Co. For now, their commercial juggernaut rolls on.
