For the first time in her nine-season career, SLAM Magazine has chosen Kelsey Mitchell as a solo cover star. This marks the first-ever solo magazine cover of her career, and the Indiana Fever wasted no time in acknowledging the moment via their official X account.

The SLAM feature celebrates her record-breaking 2026 season, with the magazine highlighting that “after nine years of relentless work,” the spotlight is shining brighter than ever on her as a true MVP candidate.
The numbers that Kelsey Mitchell has been churning out all season are indeed deserving of every spotlight and feature she has been getting. She’s had a 20+ point performance 34 times this season, which is the most consecutive games scoring 20+ points for anyone in WNBA history.
She is currently second in the league in scoring average with a career-high 25.2 points per game. And she’s doing that quite efficiently, currently shooting on a 51.5% mark, which ranks her ahead of almost every other perimeter player in the league.
While Kelsey Mitchell sits at No. 2 in points per game, she actually holds the No. 1 spot for total points scored this season with 1,056 points, which breaks the all-time WNBA single-season total scoring record.
When she surpassed that record during the Indiana Fever’s 103-85 victory over the Toronto Tempo on Friday, her teammates made sure the moment was marked in the best possible way. Mitchell walked into the visiting locker room after her 33-point performance to find confetti containers going off, showering her in celebration, and following it up with MVP chants.
That MVP push is one the Fever organization has been actively championing on social media, with a series of posts making the case for Mitchell and Caitlin Clark as co-MVP candidates. Clark herself has been among the loudest voices in support of her teammate’s case, repeatedly calling the season “insane” and “ridiculous” in public settings.
“I don’t think people realize what she’s done this year and how insane it’s been,” Clark said after the record-breaking game against the Tempo. “It’s probably not talked about enough, especially in my opinion. And for her to score the ball consistently every single night, at the clip she’s doing it, how efficient she’s doing it, it’s ridiculous.”
Overall, with Kelsey Mitchell now being featured on the SLAM magazine cover, it is safe to say that the recognition and accolades are beginning to pour in for the brilliant season she has had so far. Of course, the ultimate recognition will be the WNBA MVP award at the end of the season. But to a large extent, that is contingent on the Indiana Fever’s postseason run, or perhaps even winning the championship.
The playoffs are now just two games away, with two matchups against the league-leading Minnesota Lynx, one at home at Gainbridge Fieldhouse and the second away at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. While the playoff spot is already secured, these two matchups carry massive stakes for both teams.
The Lynx are looking to lock up the overall No. 1 seed for the playoffs, while the Fever are fighting to reclaim the No. 4 seed and secure home-court advantage for the opening round of the postseason. Beyond that, the games will also be a good momentum builder for either side heading into the playoffs.
And if the Fever are going to do anything meaningful in these games, and also in the postseason, they will once again be counting on Kelsey Mitchell.
