When Skylar Diggins entered Gainbridge Fieldhouse, she had more than just nostalgia on her mind. Yes, the Seattle Storm point guard, who once led South Bend Washington to a state championship and claimed Miss Basketball in 2009, called the 2025 WNBA All-Star weekend a “full-circle moment.”
Well, it’s because she’s spent “a lot of time here in Indianapolis.” But this time, it was quite different, as it wasn’t going to be just a solo homecoming—her kids flew with her. So, she felt a responsibility to make her family proud as her children cheered from the stands. “What better place to host it than Indiana?” she said with a smile. But she didn’t just show up!

As for the return to Indiana, specifically the massive photos of her (and the other WNBA All-Stars) located around town, Diggins expected nothing less. “I guess I didn’t know any better,” she said of the uniqueness of Indiana basketball. “This is Indiana. It’s basketball. Hoosier Hysteria is real,” she smiled. And that translated well when she stepped on the court.

The Seattle Storm guard would be exiting the hardwood with her name etched in history— she had recorded the first-ever triple-double in the WNBA All-Star Game, registering 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 15 assists. Her last dime led to a Napheesa Collier four-point shot, which also set the All-Star scoring record at 36 points—two records made on one play.
“It’s amazing. I don’t take it for granted,” Diggins had shared before she proved that with her performance. After all, the All-Star game itself was anything but traditional.

With hockey-like substitutions and four-point shots added to the mix, defense took a backseat as Team Collier defeated Team Clark 151–131. But what makes it even more engaging is the Indianapolis culture, as Diggins herself puts it: “From the moment you can stand, they put a ball in your hands. It’s inside, outside, 3-on-3, 5-on-5… It’s just the most accessible sport here.”
She wasn’t wrong. Even one of the biggest airports here has a basketball court as a memorabilia piece for those who come through. But while half the magic came from the state, the other half? Diggins ensured.

Skylar Diggins Shines With WNBA All-Star Game Assist Record
Diggins not only led the game but also the WNBA All-Star Game’s history in assists, but it was her record-breaking assist that marked a double-record breaker, as it led to another four-point shot that pushed the Lynx star’s scoring total to 36 points. Meanwhile, she overtook Sue Bird’s previous assist record of 11 set in the 2017 All-Star Game.

And if you’ve seen her spectacular pass from behind the half-court line—cutting right down the middle—you know it’s beyond words. But it was no surprise. Diggin’s averaging 5.8 every time she steps out there, and that alone ranked her in 5th position heading into the All-Star break.
And, if only these All-Star stats were counted in her season totals, Diggins might climb even higher on the leaderboard. Regardless, the guard has known to produce similar numbers during the regular season. Remember her May 23 game against the Phoenix Mercury? She dished out 14 assists in what eventually turned into a win for the Storm.
And while no other game saw double-digit assists for Diggins, she made the most of her opportunity in Indianapolis, and now she’ll be forever etched in WNBA All-Star Game history. But while her elite passing helped Team Collier cruise to a 151–131 blowout win over Team Clark, Diggins now returns to business with the Storm.

As of now, the team boasts a 14–9 record on the season while holding the third spot in the Western Conference standings. They currently stand 1.5 games behind the Mercury and 5.5 behind the Lynx. And right after the All-Star break ends, which will be in two days, she’ll return to action against the Dallas Wings on July 22.
