If you think distance can be an impediment when it comes to seeing your favorite player play live, think again. While it’s no secret that Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark’s popularity transcends continents, a Clark fan’s decision to make a 4000+ miles journey across the globe to see the Fever guard play has social media abuzz, and even the Fever general manager has been roped in to grant a special request to this particular Clark fan.

“Hey @AmberLCox & @IndianaFever, Lauren has traveled all the way from Europe to the heartland of America just to watch Caitlin Clark play basketball 🏀 in person tomorrow. It would be incredible if she is able to meet cc 🤞🏼🫶🏼,” wrote X user Krysta.
Krysta highlighted Lauren’s post, which mentioned their 4,228 mile/6,804 km journey to Indianapolis. The post came before the Fever and Caitlin Clark face the Washington Mystics at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse on September 20. Lauren’s initial post mentioned that she made the trip specifically to watch Clark. Amber Cox, who is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and General Manager for the Indiana Fever, was brought into the conversation, as the post has now garnered over 4,200 views on X.
Seeing this level of dedication from a Caitlin Clark fan is not out of the ordinary. Clark, an Iowa native, has taken the world of women’s basketball by storm ever since her arrival in the league as the number one pick in the 2024 draft. Fans and pundits often refer to Clark’s popularity and the subsequent attraction she generates, on and off the court, as the ‘Caitlin Clark effect’.
The ‘Caitlin Clark (CC) effect’ is perhaps most visible when looking at the viewership records that the Fever games have surpassed this season. Indiana Fever’s game against the Chicago Sky on August 23, 2026, drew 3.31 million viewers, the most by any game since 1997, per NBC. The viewership peaked at 3.82 million, as the Fever defeated the Sky 113-90.
Not just that, games featuring Caitlin Clark occupy four of the top 10 spots in the list of most-watched WNBA games of all time. Just a week before the Sky game, Indiana’s game against the Atlanta Dream on August 16 drew 2.60 million viewers. Previously, the Fever’s July 12 game against the Las Vegas Aces drew 2.64 million viewers, per NBC.
Caitlin Clark’s popularity is not limited to the US. Analysts have pointed out that the CC effect has extended globally, as the recently concluded FIBA World Cup in Berlin drew massive viewership.
Averaging 1.2 million viewers with a peak viewership of 1.5 million, the USA-France gold medal matchup became the third most-watched game in FIBA Women’s World Cup history. This audience represented an astronomical step up in viewership across recent cycles, up 158% from the 2022 final and 750% over the 2018 title matchup, per TNT Sports.
Caitlin Clark, who featured in all of Team USA’s six games at the World Cup, remained an attraction for the global fans. Even FIBA secretary Andreas Zagklis highlighted the role of players like Clark in taking women’s basketball global.
“I think what these players, Caitlin, one of them, have done in increasing the popularity of the women’s game is incredible. We should feel very proud about them,” Zagklis said in a press conference before the final.
“And I can tell you, my team and I have been supportive of what USA Basketball and each and every national member federation coming into the World Cup had planned for their promotion. And we tried to amplify that experience. They themselves, the players said this is a unique moment for them.”
Coming off a stellar 6-0 run at the 2026 FIBA World Cup, Clark has been in phenomenal form this WNBA season too. She is averaging 22.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per game this season and leads the league in assists per game. Some analysts are touting this as an MVP season for Clark, who in August became the only player in WNBA history to record 200+ points and 100+ assists in a single calendar month.
As the Fever and Clark continue their stride towards the postseason, signs are pointing out that more fans will undertake journeys to perhaps see Clark lift her first WNBA title this season. Unfortunately for the fan who travelled 4,228 to see Clark play the Mystics, the star guard is not listed as probable for the game. The fan, and many others, will be hoping to see Caitlin Clark put on another shooting masterclass before the playoffs take over.
