As Paige Bueckers led the Dallas Wings to their fifth consecutive win, she dropped some of the talk she’s known for on the Los Angeles Sparks in the heat of the moment. Bueckers is less than a week removed from helping Team USA win yet another FIBA World Cup title, but her first night back in the WNBA quickly reminded the league of the kind of competitiveness that makes the Dallas Wings guard stand out. And for the Sparks bench, they got to witness it firsthand during a key sequence.

During the Wings’ 25th win of the season, which came against the Sparks, Bueckers seemingly had a tense exchange with the opposing team’s bench. In a clip captured by a fan sitting courtside, Bueckers, who was moving off the ball on an offensive possession, ended up in the corner, next to the Sparks bench, and quickly responded to chatter she heard from them, per a clip reposted to X by @LegionHoops/

“God d****,” she said. “Shut yo a** up!”

According to @valmartinbx, who had originally posted the clip, this was not the first time she had exchanged words with the LA bench. Bueckers supposedly wanted a foul called on the previous offensive possession for the Wings, but had no such luck. The Sparks’ players threw salt in the wound by telling her it wasn’t a foul, so Bueckers threw some choice words their way on her next trip down the floor.

She wasn’t all talk tonight either; Bueckers finished with a game-high 19 points on an efficient 8-for-13 shooting, adding six rebounds, three assists, and two steals in just 26 minutes. The win was especially significant for the Wings, who just tied their franchise record for most wins in a season, previously held by the Detroit Shock, the previous incarnation of the franchise, who won 25 of 34 games back in 2003 on the way to the WNBA championship.

For Bueckers, the win showed she was still in top form after a grueling World Cup schedule that saw her and the rest of Team USA play two back-to-backs in a six-game tournament. First, they played Italy and Czechia on September 6 and 7, then played three games in four days, facing off against Hungary in the quarterfinals on September 10, getting a day of rest, then playing Spain and France on back-to-back days.

That schedule weighed on Bueckers, who was physically limited by the end of the tournament, and it even caused her patellar tendinitis to flare up.

“There was two back-to-backs,” she told reporters during a team practice a day before the game.

“Just wanted to be cautious, take that approach. Obviously the timing was frustrating, but being smart about it too, knowing that there’s a reason and purpose for everything.”

While Bueckers led the scoring, she was also assisted by Jessica Shepard and Maddy Siegrist. Siegrist added 12 points of her own, with two rebounds and an assist. Shepard was making records of her own, as she scored her fifth triple-double of the season. She dropped 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists in the 28 minutes she was on the hardwood. This puts her third on the list of most triple-doubles scored in a single season. Interestingly, the first two spots are both occupied by Alyssa Thomas, who scored six triple-doubles in 2023 and eight in 2025.

Now, with her back on court and clearly producing at a high level, it seems like the injury isn’t a major issue. And with her words to the LA bench, it didn’t take her long for the Wings star to make the world remember just how competitive she can get.
