While the Indiana Fever have been busy retaining their core, their latest move to lock down Damiris Dantas for $300,000 is about more than just roster depth. It’s a statement about the culture they’re building.

Dantas has signed a two-year extension with the Indiana Fever and becomes the latest in a long line of stars committing to return to Indiana this season. Head coach Stephanie White has already secured the re-signing of Sophie Cunningham, Lexie Hull, and Kelsey Mitchell.

The Fever have released a statement from Dantas herself on X. The announcement quoted Dantas, “I am very happy to be signing with the Fever again. We have built a family over my two seasons here, and that makes me excited for this season. I am excited to see all the fans and my teammates again soon!”

Apart from securing the return of as much of their 2025 squad as possible, the Indiana-based franchise has also brought in Monique Billings, who has shown her trailblazing performance at the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, with her noticeable chemistry with Caitlin Clark, and former Dallas star Tyasha Harris, two seasoned WNBA players who will add value and experience.

For Damiris Dantas, the new deal features a three-fold increase in her financial package, having earned $100,000 in 2025. While the 33-year-old is set to earn $300,000 in her first year of the two-year deal, the new CBA would increase her earnings in the next year.

In her two years with the Fever franchise, Dantas didn’t start a single game but was an integral part of the rotation. She averaged over 10 minutes per game, providing ample cover for Aliyah Boston. She is expected to continue in her role as backup to Boston for the upcoming season.

Damiris Dantas is coming fresh off a short offseason stint in Europe, playing for Turkish Super League side Botas SK, where she averaged over 18 points per game in a key role for her team. Talent, experience, and potential – the Indiana Fever roster looks like the perfect mix of these three. But they are missing one key ingredient that will help elevate their roster.

Healthy Fever Roster Could Shake WNBA Contenders

The Indiana Fever roster for the 2026 WNBA season is shaping up nicely, with depth and quality in almost every position and role. They are now one key ingredient away from becoming a serious championship contender. Head coach Stephanie White needs to address the fitness issues plaguing the roster.

The 2025 season saw six key players sidelined for several games because of injuries. Their injury problems became so paramount that Aari McDonald, an emergency signing because of the amount of injuries, succumbed to a long-term injury herself. Despite all these issues, the Indiana Fever reached the semi-finals of the WNBA playoffs.

And with five of these six players returning this season, it will be important to keep them fit if the Fever want to mount a successful title challenge. A fit and available Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham would have helped the Fever in their semi-final series against the Las Vegas Aces. A fitter squad would help Stephanie White manage the rotation better, equipping her with more options.

Overuse was one big reason behind the injuries piling up for the Fever, with a lack of state-of-the-art facilities also seen as something that is solvable at a franchise level. The Indiana Fever has already addressed the latter, unveiling a new Sports Performance Center, which will help the players train and maintain their conditioning better.

The Fever franchise has overhauled the health and performance department ahead of the new season, with the lookout for a new Director of Health a primary step to achieve better fitness and recovery results.

Things finally seem to be coming together for Stephanie White and the Indiana Fever which is great news for fans and a worrying sign for their rivals.
