The Aces didn’t just build a superteam, they practically engineered a dynasty. Between 2020 and 2022, they were stacking talent like they were prepping for a WNBA takeover. It worked. In 2022, Becky Hammon came as the final piece and they won first-ever championship. Then came 2023, and they ran it back  and everyone thought a three-peat was just a formality.

But here we are in 2025… and this ain’t the same Aces story. What started off as a bumpy patch turned into a full-blown slide. The low point was the brutal loss to Indiana where they scored the fewest points in franchise history. But up next is a Connecticut Sun team that’s been kind of in shambles lately. And the Aces already beat them twice this season. So, is this finally the night Vegas gets back in the win column?

  • Marina Mabrey is still out, and that’s a huge blow considering she carried them in their last win (which, btw, was weeks ago).
  • Tina Charles is questionable with a shoulder issue.
  • Jaelyn Brown is officially out with an illness.

  • Megan Gustafson misses her second straight. Becky Hammon said she’s ramping up but there’s still no timeline.

Also, Joyner Holmes is waived after six games. That leaves Vegas with just 10 active players and that’s including Gustafson, who hasn’t suited up all season due to a bad ankle sprain.

Prediction: Can the Aces Finally Even the Win-Loss Column with 9th Win?

The numbers haven’t been kind to either team lately. The Sun are fresh off a 39-point loss to the Lynx and are 13th in the league for points per game (71.1), field goal percentage (39.3%), and rebounds (30.2). On defense, it’s also rough as they give up 88.8 points per game.

Meanwhile, the Aces just got rocked by the Fever, 81-54. But compared to Connecticut, they’ve still got better output: 80.9 points a game, 40.8% shooting, and 33.5 rebounds per night. Not great, but definitely less messy. And even though their roster’s been stretched thin, they still have A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, Jackie Young, and Jewell Loud. That’s still a monster core, even if they’re missing key depth.

To add to worries, Connecticut is on a nine-game losing streak. Their last win came on June 6. And remember, that one came with Mabrey on the court, who’s not playing . Add in the Charles injury concerns, and things aren’t looking great. Also, fun fact (or maybe not-so-fun if you’re a Sun fan): Vegas has owned this matchup. They’ve beaten the Sun five straight times, including two blowouts this season.

So considering the history, the injuries, and the numbers, this one is leaning hard in the Aces’ favor as ESPN predictor also lies with Aces (74.5%).
