It was certainly wrong to assume that the drama between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark was over. With the Chicago Sky rookie sidelined by the end of the season, many expected Clark to win the ROTY honor unanimously. But she wasn’t. Sports commentator, Cindy Brunson was accused of being the reason behind. But it turns out that the social media detectives might be largely mistaken.

To a majority’s disbelief, Brunson straightened things out as she took to X to write, “You are so sad. I don’t have a WNBA Awards vote.”

Clark indeed won the WNBA ROTY title. But she received 66 out of 67 votes — one of them went to Sky rookie. So now, fans are busy digging for details to uncover what led to this situation, specifically, who the voter might be. As we know, the names of award voters and their selections are not revealed to the public, the guessing game is at its peak. The first name to surface in the conversation was Brunson.

The Phoenix Mercury commentator has gotten herself in hot waters with Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever fans previously. “Let’s press the Indiana organization,” Brunson had said. “If Caitlin isn’t going to do the right thing, I think general manager Lin Dunn, head coach Stephanie White, other folks in that organization need to push back on the vitriol aimed particularly at black women and LGBTQI+ women.”

Moreover, Brunson had also suggested that Clark would struggle to adjust to the league. And when the ‘Caitlin Clark effect’ blew up, she had to say that the WNBA ‘did not need saving, it just needed promotion.’ The frequent remarks have not sat well with the fandoms. Hence, even as she clarified her involvement, some are still doubtful.

Cindy Brunson gets dragged into the Caitlin Caitlin and Angel Reese drama

Some netizens are confident in their assumptions on X, and the conversation is only getting wilder with several more comments. The Fever rookie garnered 700,735 votes for the All-Star Game, which explains why fans are upset about the one-vote snub. Reese has been legendary, and equally gracious has been Clark, who broke multiple records and led her team to a playoff appearance. However, Reese, who was sidelined due to a wrist injury, couldn’t claim that achievement. “It’s def Cindy Brunson’s dumb a**”  a fan suggested.

Some have completely ignored her latest tweet, while many netizens are convinced that she is the one who cast the vote for Reese. People voiced that Clark who had 26 double-doubles, made her worthy of 67 votes. Well, the list of accolades can go on. “Forgot about her…that’s a good guess.  Wonder if she’ll release that ballot or keep hiding,” a netizen claimed.

Moreover, some of Brunson’s actions have also raised suspicion among fans, as she has blocked numerous users who have accused her.

Some have brought up Brunson’s previous questionable comment on Indiana Fever to “press” them. “Who could that 1 voter be, that prevented CC from her Unanimous ROTY? People keep asking Cindy to reveal her ROTY ballot, but instead, she’s on a blocking spree. FYI, this is the same person who said “Let’s press the Indiana organization” Something doesnt add up.”

And again there are some who believe that Brunson’s actions only further hint that she might be involved in all the drama which is the vote that went to Reese. “Thanks for clearing it up Cindy🫡😶 As we continue the search, could this mean something????👀👀👀 “I’m 90% sure rookie of the year is not gonna be unanimous. so just be prepared”👀👀👀👀”

It seems this might not be the right time for Brunson to either respond or even sit quietly.
