Chennedy Carter’s latest WNBA chapter ended almost as quickly as it began. After an overseas stint in 2025, Carter made her way back and joined the defending champions, the Las Vegas Aces, in April 2026. However, after just 12 weeks, the Aces waived her on July 7, 2026. Yet, just over two weeks after getting waived, she’s set to return to a familiar league.

As per Chinese media outlet 我爱女篮 (I Love Women’s Basketball), the 2025 WCBA Scoring Champion has signed with WCBA champions Sichuan Yuanda (Sichuan Blue Whales) for the upcoming season. The news was shared by Chinese Women’s Hoop Show on X, who cited the same source.
The move gives the former Aces guard another chance to show the scoring prowess that has made her one of the most talented guards in women’s basketball. Before rejoining the WNBA this season, she averaged a whopping 33.1 points per game in the WCBA, according to Asia Basket’s stats.
It all started in 2023, when she played for Heilongjiang, becoming the league’s leading scorer with 28.9 points per game. Then, after signing with Wuhan Shengfan for the 2024-25 season, she upped the ante, increasing her average to 31.4.
This is in stark contrast to her career in the WNBA, especially this season. The Aces waived Carter before the deadline for non-guaranteed contracts to become guaranteed, a move that puzzled many due to her being one of the leading scorers for the team off the bench.
Carter had averaged 12.2 points per game on 60% from the field in her 13 games played. What makes the situation even more confusing is the fact that the Aces never explained why they ended up waiving her, with head coach Becky Hammon refusing to comment on the situation.
One potential reason for her being waived might have been due to off-court issues. After starting the year strong in May, when she averaged 17.5 points per game in 20.3 minutes per game, everything went wrong. Carter replied to some fans on social media, saying that she was on a “leash” after a loss to the Dallas Wings and missed games due to a leg injury.
After returning, her averages fell drastically. Over the five games she played in June and July, she averaged just 3.8 points per game on 35.3% shooting, and was subsequently waived.
Before Vegas, Carter’s previous WNBA stint with the Chicago Sky also ended with the Sky opting not to re-sign her. Back then, Annie Costabile, who was reporting for the Chicago Sun-Times, wrote that, “According to multiple league sources, players were unhappy with the dynamic created in the locker room last year due to Carter’s behavior, which went unchecked by former coach Teresa Weatherspoon.”
However, what led to the Aces waiving Carter remains unknown. When asked about why they waived Carter, coach Becky Hammon said, “We aren’t going to comment on players that aren’t here anymore.”
