Right from the beginning, the WNBA draft’s No. 1 pick Caitlin Clark roared on the basketball court. To stop the sparking Clark on the court, Chicago Sky came up with a strategy wherein Chennedy Carter was found apt to stop her. But, the matchup took an unexpected turn taking it in a different direction which made Clark voice, “That’s just not a basketball play.”

To provide fans with a deeper look into this topic, The Athletic took it to their official X account and shared a picture of Clark from the court. In the postgame interview, Carter was asked about her flagrant foul and her response left the fans in further shock. “Next question,” was all Carter had to say. But what happened? During the matchup, Sky’s guard Chennedy Carter took a calculated, vigorous move against Fever’s WNBA No. 1 draft pick. She intentionally knocked her down during an in-bounds play.

Irrespective of what Clark had to endure in terms of physicality in this game, she kept her humility intact. When asked about the hard foul committed by Carter, Clark said, “I wasn’t expecting that, but it’s just like, ‘respond, calm down and let your play do that talking.’ It is what it is.” And indeed, Clark’s performance on the court did the talking!

After observing the game, many believed that the manipulated action by Sky’s player warranted a flagrant foul. Not only Clark’s fans but Clark herself also dived into the conversation after the end of the third quarter. In an exclusive interview with ESPN, she responded to the opponent’s controversial act in just one sentence.

She said, “That’s just not a basketball play. But you gotta play through it. That’s what basketball’s about at this level.” Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Clark has encountered physical moves since her journey with the WNBA began. However, in all cases, Carter’s action was quite unacceptable. But the question is: what made Carter resort to such physicality during the game?

Even though her motive is not clear, it seems like she committed a hard foul against Clark to disrupt her rhythm on the court. But Clark responded in her own way. She ended up in the hard-fought battle against Sky with a close 70-71 win.
