When we talk about the WNBA and CBA deal, one particular player’s name always comes to mind: Napheesa Collier. Being the Vice President of the WNBPA and the co-founder of Unrivaled, she is one of the most trusted sources that people choose to follow, and when she spilled the undisclosed gossip about the WNBA, people listened to her every word.

“They did, we did offer equity when we first before we launched. Yeah, and they turned it down. Everything we are fighting for is salary benefits, equity in the league, like we have all these things without needing to be asked at Unrivaled. Like we want for nothing here. And not only do we meet the minimum standards that we’re begging for in the WNBA, but we also exceed them. Players see here what professional life should look like.”
“And so it’s really hard when you’ve been given that to accept less. When you know what it could be like,” said Napheesa Collier, dissecting the situation.
Ever since Unrivaled has come into the market, it has definitely created pressure on the WNBA with the money it was bringing in for the athletes. Players now have facilities where they can have equity stakes in the league, meaning facilities are designed with their input and priorities compared to the WNBA, where players’ influence is curtailed.

The salary amount has also increased significantly as a result, with players reportedly earning over $250k a year, which greatly exceeds the WNBA’S maximum limit.
Napheesa Collier’s comments touched a chord with the fans who showed their support for her on Instagram.

Fans Lean Towards Unrivaled As a Better Replacement For the WNBA.
As the league keeps on dilly-dallying with the CBA deal, many fans are of the opinion that it’s time to say goodbye to the old and welcome the new.
“Let’s cancel the WNBA & go FULL TIME…y’all definitely can do it & the fans will support,” said a fan who is more than looking forward to the possibility of a future without the WNBA.

A future like that is bound to change how the world perceives basketball as a sport. After the conclusion of the second season, viewership grew 35% following the wildly successful weekend in Philadelphia, but overall numbers still finished down from last year. But there was some good news as well.

The final game between the Mist and the Phantom became the most-watched game in league history, averaging 314k viewers (-14% from 2025). This is where viewership saw a sharp increase in numbers, hitting a peak of 335k.

Choices are relative, but fans seem to be digging the fast-paced, energetic 3×3 format of the game more so than the traditional 5×5 approach. Moreover, Unrivaled has also introduced the 1 v 1 tournament, which pits individual players against one another, and is also building up drama for the fans.
Earlier, fans never got to see their players go head-to-head solely on their own merit and skill, but now they also get their curiosity fulfilled, like what would happen if a Kelsey Plum and Paige Bueckers go 1v1 on court, or perhaps an Arike Ogunbowale and Breanna Stewart. And that is exactly why the fans are switching allegiance.

“I prefer Unrivaled over the WNBA. Such a great product! And I love the mid-season 1v1 tourney. A fun change of pace. (Well, fun for the fans. It looks brutal for the players!) Kudos to @napheesa24 and her hubby for starting Unrivaled,” said a fan grateful for the gift they received.
Napheesa Collier’s husband, Alex Bazzell, founded Unrivaled in 2023. Bazzell, who has firsthand experience working with NBA and WNBA players, officially became Unrivaled’s president as the couple felt the need to bridge gaps between the pay and facilities provided to the players.
Compared to the men playing for the NBA, they were receiving peanuts for their hard work and felt the need to bolster the players’ security at a time when the women’s game was at its peak in popularity, with Caitlin Clark coming in, and that opened a lot of doors.

The fans, too, aren’t slacking and are even willing to invest in the product if need be.
“I would love the ability for fans to invest in Unrivaled,” said a fan who would welcome an opportunity to contribute.
While fans are eager to invest, Unrivaled’s status as a private company currently limits that opportunity to accredited investors, leaving most to support the league from the sidelines for now.
