The 30-year-old point guard joined the LA Sparks as part of a three-team trade involving the Las Vegas Aces and Seattle Storm. A two-time WNBA champion, Kelsey Plum played a crucial role in leading the Aces to back-to-back championship titles in 2022 and 2023. The Sparks, who last claimed the title in 2016, will be looking to replicate that success as they pursue WNBA glory this season.

But before that, everyone is delighted, especially Brink who shared her admiration for Plum in an interview with USA Today Sports saying,“I just am a huge fan of her I think she’s a wonderful human and we have the same trainer so I’ve definitely been in her quarter we’ve worked out together since I was pretty young so I’m just very thankful for her mentorship.”

It turns out the two players share a deeper bond than many realized as both Brink and Plum have trained under former Stanford basketball player Susan King Borchardt, whom Plum once referred to as “a secret weapon.” which in result has established a bond between them already, even before they set out to play together on the court.

“I think she’s exactly what we need—an amazing vet and teammate,” Brink added. “She can obviously score the ball, and she’s just a good time, so I’m really excited.”

Now entering her seventh WNBA season, Plum is coming off an impressive year with the Aces, where she averaged 17.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game while helping them reach the semi-finals. Meanwhile, the Sparks missed the playoffs last season, but with new head coach Lynne Roberts at the centre and a player like Kelsey in the mix, they will be looking to turn things around.

Las Vegas Aces Fall Short of Historic Three-Peat

Kelsey leaves the Aces as the franchise’s second all-time leader in assists with 946 and ranks fourth in scoring with 3,368 career points, while also joining perennial MVP contender A’ja Wilson as one of the only players in team history to record a 40-point game, but even despite this the Aces failed to achieve a three-peat last season.

The Aces had an incredible season and were inches away from achieving their dream but they failed short to do so against the 2024 WNBA champions New York Liberty, who leaded the series (2-1) before finally pulling of a upset on them defeating the Aces (76-62). while both A’ja wilson (19 points ) and Kelsey (17 points) contributed significantly, scoring half of the points for the team.

Aces head coach Becky Hammon made it clear after the team fell short of a three-peat last season that significant roster changes were expected this year. “It’s not going to be the same group probably next year, it just won’t. And I’m sad about that because I really liked that group,” Hammon said in October.

However, even after letting go of Kelsey, the Aces still have their core intact, with three-time MVP A’ja Wilson and multiple-time All-Stars Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young, keeping them firmly in the championship race this season.

With Kelsey Plum now bringing her championship experience to Los Angeles and reuniting with Brink in an unexpected way, the Sparks have a fresh spark of hope for the upcoming season. As they aim to reclaim their former glory, all eyes will be on how this new duo, with their shared history, can make an impact on the court.
