Caitlin Clark is used to directing traffic on the court. Now she had to do it on the racetrack. As the grand marshal at the Indy 500, one of the most popular races in the world, Clark instructed the drivers at the start of the race. Even with the competition taking center stage, Clark still managed to steal plenty of attention, including a reaction from her teammate, Lexie Hull.

Clark was greeted by a crowd of fans as she made her way to the stage, signing some autographs. The Fever star stopped to take some photos of her own with her tailored outfit. Clark sported a bomber jacket that featured a checkered flag design for the Indy 500. She paired it with a simple white cropped tank top and high-waisted black denim jeans. To top it off, Clark also received a custom Indiana Fever-Indy 500 helmet.
After the event, Bri Lewerke, the Indiana Fever photographer, posted a carousel of photos featuring Clark. She was also accompanied by coach Stephanie White and Hull. The Fever forward kept it simple, commenting with just one word, writing, “Love.” She also reposted their photo on her Instagram stories. It was another moment in their friendship that captivated the fans.

And Hull herself was pretty excited for the Indy 500 as she wore a race-inspired outfit on Golden State Valkyries game day. She wore a white jacket that had the iconic Wing and Wheel logo on the front of it. Hull had the same jacket on the race day. White, on the other hand, also sported an Indy 500 t-shirt while pairing it with jeans.
And the Fever crew had a blast. “Yes, I am on the pit team.” Clark posted from the sidelines. “I kind of knew what to expect, but every time coming here, it’s shocking—the amount of people, the excitement, the buzz. It’s insane,” Lexie Hull said (via WTHR). However, not everything was hunky-dory for Clark.
Lexie Hull Reveals Caitlin Clark Mistake After Indy 500 Command
Caitlin Clark is usually the most assured person on the court. She commands the team with ease and oozes confidence. But away from the court, Clark is quite human. Like when she admitted being extremely nervous while playing golf.
“I don’t worry about basketball too much, but there is nothing like standing on a tee box and there (are) a bunch people watching you and this isn’t what you’re really good at,” she said. And the same happened at the Indy 500.
Lexie Hull posted a clip of Clark practicing to be the grand marshal before the big moment. She was tasked with saying, “Drivers, to your cars!” It was just four words but the occasion and the attention meant Caitlin Clark had to practice every one of them.
“What are you gonna say today?” Hull asked in the TikTok. “Drivers, then pause…” Clark said. “To your cars!..To your cars now!” She even tried out a different tone and finalized one as Hull and Co. laughed in the background.
Then it cut to Clark on the stage and Hull wrote, “More nervous here than pregame.” The moment of truth finally arrived and Clark pulled off her duties with perfection. Yet, Hull wrote, “Didn’t pause like we practiced but 10/10.”
Clark joined a list of celebrities who have been the grand marshal, including Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, and Blake Shelton. And safe to say, the duo thoroughly enjoyed the experience. But it’s also important for Clark in a cultural sense to connect with the major events in the city and represent the WNBA at one of the most revered races in the world.
