Heading into Friday’s matchup against the Connecticut Sun, the entire basketball community had one big question, how would Indiana hold up without their star guard, Caitlin Clark? Sidelined with a left quad injury, Clark could only watch from the bench as her team tried to snap out of a two-game losing streak. And for a moment, it looked like they might just pull it off. But fate had other plans. The Fever once again fell short in the final possession, and to make matters worse, they lost two more guards to injury, adding yet another layer to coach Stephanie White’s growing list of problems.
Friday night turned into a nightmare for the Indiana Fever, not just because of the heartbreaking 85–83 loss to the Connecticut Sun, but also due to two more injury setbacks. Sydney Colson suffered what looked like a left leg injury, while Sophie Cunningham appeared to roll her right ankle. What made matters worse? Both injuries came from contact plays involving the same player! Connecticut guard Jacy Sheldon.
Sheldon, a rookie out of Ohio State and a familiar foe from Clark’s Iowa days in the Big Ten, brought her signature high-energy defense to the game, but her aggressive style started controversy after these collisions.

Rachel DeMita didn’t hold back after watching the Fever’s tough loss to the Sun. Venting her frustration on her YouTube channel, she said, “Can we talk about the physicality for a second? Two players on the Indiana Fever got injured last night by the same player on the Connecticut Sun, and that was Jacy Sheldon. I tweeted about it. She was playing so reckless. I’m fine with players playing aggressive, but there is a thin line between playing aggressive and playing reckless.”
Sheldon, who played her college ball at Ohio State, Iowa and Caitlin Clark’s Big Ten rival, was seen diving for a loose ball when things took a nasty turn. She landed right on top of Sydney Colson’s leg, which got caught underneath and twisted in an awkward, painful-looking way. And it didn’t stop there. Moments later, Sheldon was involved again, this time while fighting over a screen set by Sophie Cunningham. In the process, Cunningham took a bad step and rolled her ankle.

DeMita continued,” This kind of physicality that the WNBA just… they brag about, they say it’s always been a physical league, that’s just the heart of the W. It’s not good basketball, and we’ve seen so many injuries.”
She pointed to a troubling trend this season, with stars like Napheesa Collier, Paige Bueckers, Tyasha Harris, and Alyssa Thomas also sidelined, raising questions about whether the league’s officiating is doing enough to prevent dangerous plays. If the WNBA can’t protect its players, the quality of the game will suffer and the ratings will take a hit as a result. What’s your perspective on:

Stephanie White has no update regarding the new injuries for Caitlin Clark’s teammates
The Indiana Fever have now suffered consecutive losses with Caitlin Clark sidelined. Their most recent defeat to Connecticut drops them to 2–4 on the season. A start that few fans would’ve predicted before the season began.
Coming off a strong offseason where they added veterans like DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard to complement Clark and Aliyah Boston, the Fever were seen as title contenders, making this injury-riddled start especially frustrating.

And to make things even tougher, there’s no update yet on Sydney Colson and Sophie Cunningham’s injuries. According to Fever insider Scott Agness, head coach Stephanie White revealed that both players , who were expected to help fill the void left by Caitlin Clark are still being evaluated. “We’re hitting adversity right now. It’s challenging, and it’s still a great opportunity for us,” White said.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Fever handle this flurry of injuries. Caitlin Clark is surely itching to return, but she knows she can’t afford to rush it and risk aggravating her quad. On a slightly brighter note, Sydney Colson was spotted in the locker room after the game, which could be a positive sign that her injury isn’t too serious. But we will have to wait for the update.
