Caitlin Clark, obviously, is one of a kind. She might have had a rough season due to injuries, but that doesn’t mean her offseason has to follow the same script. So, once again, she’s traded her sneakers for golf spikes, and on November 12, she’ll return to The ANNIKA Driven by Gainbridge at Pelican Pro-Am. But this time, she won’t just be a participant – she’ll also be a golf coach. Her students? None other than her Indiana Fever teammates.

Joining Clark at the event as her caddies will be Sophie Cunningham and Lexie Hull. But before “Tres Leches” even hit the green, Coach CC’s lessons had already begun. And so had the laughter. It all started when Sophie, full of excitement about her upcoming caddie debut, posted a story on Instagram celebrating her new role. Her caption read: “Four!!!” That, of course, was an instant red flag – or rather, the wrong word. In golf, it’s “fore,” not “four.” So, Coach CC reposted her teammate’s story, highlighting the obvious error. “Yeah, clearly we have a lot to learn about golf… it’s ‘fore,’ bud,” she wrote.

But for Sophie, it was a reminder that being CC’s caddie isn’t exactly a walk in the park, especially when she and Hull asked for the roles themselves. Excited for CC’s participation in the Pro-Am, the two were quick to jump in when Indy confirmed the news on October 16. “Caitlin Clark returns to play at the @theannikalpga driven by Gainbridge Pro-Am on November 12 at Pelican Golf Club ⛳,” the team captioned.

But unlike others, they had a special request, too. “@caitlinclark22 need a couple of caddies? @lexiehull,” asked Sophie, to which Lexie added, “@sophie_cham sign us up!!!” Initially, it seemed like a joke. But on November 5, the ANNIKA event’s official page confirmed the news: “Indiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham and Lexie Hull will serve as celebrity caddies during the Wednesday Pro-Am at The ANNIKA Driven by Gainbridge at Pelican!”

The post added, “They’ll be alongside Caitlin Clark, Nelly Korda, and Lauryn Nguyen for an unforgettable day at Pelican Golf Club on Nov. 12.” And that’s how it all came together. Now, Coach CC has a lot more to teach her teammates before the trio steps onto the green. But of course, Sophie and Lexie aren’t tagging along just for fun. They’re joining Clark for something bigger – to help elevate women’s sports and visibility.

As Clark explained, “I had an amazing time at The Annika last November and participating in the Pro-Am alongside Nelly Korda and Annika Sorenstam, two of the best in the game.” When asked why she decided to return, she told The Athletic, “I’m honored to be an ambassador for a company like Gainbridge that’s so committed to elevating women’s sports.”

And while Gainbridge is doing its part, Clark and her teammates are doing theirs. Together, they’re bringing attention, authenticity, and joy to women’s athletics – one fairway at a time. But as united as they are off the court, will they all be together on it next season?

What’s next for “Tres Leches”?

It might be Sophie’s first year with CC and Lexie, but you wouldn’t guess that by looking at their bond. They’ve supported each other through everything – injuries, tough losses, and now, hilarious offseason adventures. And their chemistry off the court reflects the same spirit they carry into every game.

Unfortunately, that might not last long. That’s because outside of Cailtin Clark and AB, every other player on Indy’s roster is expected to enter free agency this winter. As it stands, the Fever have a maximum cap hit of $1,552,300 and just $251,266 in active cap. This means they’ve got roughly $1.3 million in total cap space.

But while Fever would want to retain its core, everything hinges on the upcoming CBA at the moment. As the players’ union has been vocal about fighting for increased salaries and a better revenue-sharing model, the “new transformative deal” can change everything, especially when the league has countered with a proposal that includes a potential supermax salary of $850,000.

So yes, everything depends on what comes next in the CBA talks. For now, though, Clark and her teammates are enjoying a lighter moment.
