The term Clarkonomics has gained a lot of popularity in the last year or so. Some call it the Caitlin Clark effect, but the point is that Clark has led the rise of the WNBA and, in extension, Indiana. She has been the catalyst for change, bringing out fans to WNBA games. Her economic impact has been unreal as a renowned valuation guru in the field of finance, Dr. Ryan Brewer commented, “The numbers are so staggering, they don’t even seem real.”

Caitlin Clark ignited an economic surge in Indianapolis, propelling the city to a staggering $36 million boost. Her electrifying presence filled hotels with traveling fans, sent merchandise flying off the shelves, and sparked unprecedented engagement from the Fever faithful. Clark and her popularity also played an important part in bringing the All-Star Game to the city.  This game-changing impact earned Clark a coveted spot on the Indiana 250, a showcase of the state’s most influential business and community leaders across all sectors.

Caitlin Clark is in elite company on the Indiana 250. She shares the honor with WNBA legend and beloved Indy figure Tamika Catchings, celebrated for transforming countless lives through her Catch The Stars Foundation. NBA Finals standout Tyrese Haliburton, who electrified the city by leading the Pacers to a near-championship run before injury dashed their Game 7 hopes, joins the roster as well. Haliburton’s dynamic leadership has sparked a Pacers renaissance, cementing his reputation as a franchise savior.

Together, these influential leaders are a testament to Indiana’s passion, resilience, and lasting legacy in both sports and community leadership.

“This has been a huge year in sports — with Notre Dame playing in the college football national championship game, the Pacers in the NBA Finals, Indianapolis hosting the WNBA All-Star Game and the Indiana Sports Corp. securing the Olympic swimming trials for 2028,” said Lesley Weidenbener, the editor of IBJ and the Indiana 250. “It’s no surprise we ended up with a large number of new people on the list who represent sports.”

The city breathes sports. The driving force behind the rapid rise of the WNBA and the Indiana Fever, the city has forged an unmistakable connection with Caitlin Clark. Clark has repeatedly applauded Indiana fans for “having their back,” and the Circle City has wrapped her in a fierce embrace of its own. Clark’s loyalty goes beyond dazzling the city with record-smashing performances and seismic economic impact. On the court, her fierce competitiveness fuels her drive to win; off the court, she’s a relatable, genuine face the city loves. Clark has even thrown her lot in with Pacers’ star Tyrese Haliburton, sharing the dream of calling Indiana home for the long haul.

“Ty and I would both tell you this is where we both hope to stay the rest of our careers,” Clark explained earlier, referencing herself and Haliburton. “People are like, ‘It’s a small market.’ But no, that’s what makes it fun. These people, this is what means the world to them.”

“You look at LeBron James, you’re like, he plays somewhere. You look at Brittney Griner, you’re like, she’s definitely, probably a WNBA player,” Adrian Moss, director of the Central Indiana Basketball Association (CIBA), said. “But you look at Caitlin Clark, she kind of looks like just your average person out here. And so, I think it gives young players, they look at her and are like, ‘hey, I could go to the WNBA too.’ Whatever your physical state is, or whatever you have naturally, you can be better.”
