In 2018, Marina Mabrey was the partner in crime with Arike Ogunbowale. Eight years later, they’re worth millions but still arguing over a $500 fine. The two led Notre Dame to a National Championship victory, an unforgettable year for both. Cut to today: the former teammates faced off in a pivotal clash, and it was all laughs and giggles before the game as the two caught up for dinner as well. However, their fun went a little too far during the game, and now Mabrey finds herself taking an unwanted fine.

Just less than five minutes into the second quarter, Mabrey tried to cut off an Ogunbowale screen but got tangled in the process. A foul was called on the Dallas Wings star as the two exchanged some words. Ogunbowale was stunned by the call as it was reviewed for a hostile act. After review, a defensive foul was given to Ogunbowale, but it was accompanied by a technical to Mabrey for her post-foul words. It meant a $500 fine for Mabrey’s second foul of the season, and that is money she does not want to pay.

“Broooo, that’s not a tech,” Mabrey wrote on Threads after the game. “But Arike should pay my fine. 🙄🥲”

The Tempo star, who is also termed the ‘Queen of crashouts,’ almost did exactly that during the game. She was baffled by the call as the referee explained it to her. Ogunbowale even goaded her further after the call as the two continued to pull each other’s legs. The referee had to step in to calm the situation that wasn’t truly heated. Naturally, Ogunbowale continued the jokes after the game, replying to Mabrey’s Threads post.

“Dang near broke my arm. I ain’t paying 💩😂,” Ogunbowale wrote, to which Mabrey replied, “Broke my arm is fully insane 😂😂😂😂.”

It was all fun and games between two former teammates who once played together. They also reunited in the WNBA when Mabrey was traded to the Wings in 2020.

The two thrived as a backcourt duo in Dallas for three years. 2021 was their best year together, while Mabrey finished third in the Most Improved Player Of The Year race and the 6th Player Of The Year Race.

Tempo’s Isabelle Harrison also got in on the fun and joked, “Y’all have not changed 😂😂😂.”

Harrison played with Ogunbowale on the Dallas team for four years and now plays with Mabrey on the Tempo. Regardless, while the officials took the steps they deemed necessary, there is clearly no bad blood.
