It hasn’t even been a week since Angel Reese had to be carried off the court by her mother after losing the WNBA Finals to the Golden State Valkyries. But a big, happy family moment in New Orleans offered unexpected relief to the Atlanta Dream star’s heartbreak as she sat courtside at the Smoothie King Center for the New Orleans Pelicans vs. Minnesota Timberwolves game.

On Friday, the Pelicans’ social media posted a picture of Reese, her brother Julian Reese, who is part of the Pelicans’ roster, posing for a picture with their mother, Angel Webb Reese. The WNBA star rocked a zebra-print dress, and mother Reese paired denim with a loose white shirt.

Julian Reese signed a two-way contract with the Pelicans, which means that he will share time between the Pelicans and the G League. On Friday, in the Pelicans’ 115-109 loss, he didn’t take the floor.

Julian went undrafted in 2025 but signed with the Los Angeles Lakers for the Summer League. He later signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Toronto Raptors before signing a two-way contract with the Washington Wizards.

While Reese is still looking for a regular rotational spot, Julian’s last season’s numbers with the Wizards are a big reason that the Pelicans gambled on him. Julian played 13 games with Washington, with 10 starts and averaged a double-double. The 6’7” forward averaged 11.8 points and 10.5 rebounds on 52.9% shooting from the field.

The Timberwolves have played 10 games this season so far, and Julian Reese has appeared in just one. He took the floor for three minutes in the 121-99 win over the Atlanta Hawks. He posted 2 points and 1 rebound on 100% shooting. Reese reunited with Maryland teammate Derik Queen in New Orleans.

This was not the first time that Reese has been in attendance to support her brother. In March earlier this year, she attended a Washington Wizards-Orlando Magic game. Before the game, she posed with him rocking his Wizards jersey.

Reese has been on the road for the last few days during this offseason, which she is possibly using to recharge. Before attending her brother’s game, Reese was at her alma mater, LSU. The Tigers honored their former championship star during halftime of the LSU-Texas Southern historic game. While Reese sat courtside at Pete Maravich Assembly Center, Kim Mulkey’s team recorded a 131-22 win for the largest win margin in NCAA Division I history.

Angel Reese stood at the center of the court she once ruled. The Tigers honored her with a gold crown; Mulkey gave her former star student a rose bouquet before joining her for a picture. Minutes before Reese walked onto the court, the Tigers played a tribute video of Reese, and Mulkey stood beside her.

After the game, Reese joined LSU players and Mulkey at the postgame presser. She showered praise on her former coach for helping her players get ready for the WNBA.

“Honestly, I think any player that plays under Coach Mulkey, I think it makes it easy going into the W because you’re coached so hard in college, and now you get to the W, it makes it so easy. When you go from four-hour practices to an hour, I’m like, ‘Well, anymore, like what else do we have?’ So yeah, it’s really easy. The transition is a lot easier,” Reese told reporters during media interaction.

But Reese had a bigger message for upcoming talent. She highlighted that she worked hard under Mulkey, and that has been the recipe for her success and her teammates’.

“Playing hard on every single possession. There’s no taking plays off. That is the standard, and I can hold everybody accountable because I know what the expectation is, and that has helped me win. That’s the result I’ve had from winning. Being surrounded by winners, that’s the only thing I know,” the WNBA star further added.

In 2023, Reese led the Tigers to their first national title. The Chicago Sky selected her No. 7 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft. After two seasons in Chicago, Reese was traded to the Atlanta Dream. She led the Dream to a WNBA Finals appearance for the first time since 2013. Unfortunately, Atlanta lost the series in Game 7.

In seven games, Reese averaged 14.7 points, 12.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks. While the loss was heartbreaking, Reese hasn’t lost her heart. She is vowed to come back again for yet another attempt at the title.
